This is a slightly bizarre and definitely pointless thread but putting hay out yesterday for our dry cows and thinking what a fantastic feed it is; no plastic, no effluent, easy as pie to handle and transport, rumen friendly, cows love it.
Got me wondering; does anyone know of anyone still...
A potential anaerobic digester just up the road from me had its Planning Committee meeting yesterday. They had already approached me to grow crops for them & take digestate back. I would prefer a break crop if possible. The farm has a significant blackgrass burden. Mostly brashy soils prone to...

Hi there I would like to build a new building to house my suckler cows. I have planning permission for a 60 x 40 ft shed. At current we have 14 sucklers however are struggling for housing space so cannot expand and cannot calve inside leading to calves being sold younger. I would also like to...
Baled my 50/50 red clover and grass mix around 5 weeks ago now and was wondering how long clover needs to ferment properly or if it’s ready now? Ready to use it as soon as it’s finished fermenting
Just a quick heads up really as I never knew it was something a cow could get!

We normally drill Italian. We have 30 acres that won't need grass cut before Maized is drilled. Will also aim to Simba and drill rather than plough prefer not to leave it bear. Could use Italian but that does tend to leave quite a tight surface.
What are peoples suggestions.

Basically, I bought and planted a ley last year that was meant to contain white and red clover as part of the mix, however once it had germinated and grown it was obvious that the red clover hadn’t grown at all, with the only explanation being it was never in the bag in the first place. Company...
Got 15 acres of Lucerne to bale. Been told best to round bale and wrap it. Would suit me better to do it in 4 string square bales and wrap it. Just wanted to know if anyone square bales Lucerne had problems wrapping it due to the spiky stalk ends? How many layers of wrap needed to seal a bale...
What's the most the high yielding people on here have fed to their cows? I've gone up to 13kg before but was wondering how much more I could push it? Will be for cows doing 50-60 if not more litres
They'll be having 3-4kg rolled wheat, 4kg soya hulls and 1.5kg of hipro soya through the parlour...

just finished another slow and painful day of chopping mix of light 3rd cut, wet 3rd cut seeds and overgrown 2nd cut. My issue is, I’ve got a 1995 Claas jaguar 860 self propelled. I brought it secondhand spring 2022.
Last year it mauled through 3 cuts. Since it was put away...
