I need to hire a tractor for two days, however they wont insure me. Does anyone know of any insurance companies who would insure a hire tractor for a 16 year old? Many thanks in advance
16 year old needs temporary tractor insurance, any ideas/companies?

Is it for your own use or are you then going contracting?
Might be cheaper to hire a man and tractor!
My insurance has been taken over by howden. Could try them.
Well, if I'm being honest I want to go to my school prom in a tractor (preferably taking someone with me too!) however I felt a bit guilty asking the local farmers if I could borrow theirs as it is in July which they will be busy. I'm looking around at my options. The hard luck is that i want to be a farmer but I don't come from a farming family so therefore can't just ask my family to use our own tractor. I do work on a different local farm but they only have a single seater Massey 390 which is great most of the time but not quite what I'm looking for!

Even a farmers son using his dad's tractor wouldn't be insured for that. You could chance it but wouldn't like to think what happens if you did hit something!
I looked at my insurance when we had a lot of snow and don't think I could use it for getting to work or taking my girlfriend to work.
You will have to think of a different way to get there as you will not get insurance especially looking to take someone else with you

Do you think someone standing on the link arms will be a issue for insurance!
They use them for weddings but I imagine no one asked and along as nothing happen it's never going to be a issue for insurance.

I insure with the NFU and im pretty certain that Social, domestic and pleasure is included……………however using red diesel for it…………..

@Fergulator more importantly, have you taken a driving test to allow you to drive it legally?? You can only drive on L plates to, or from your test at 16 ifirc

Get someone to drive you there and then collect you at the end. Simples.
No outlay, no worries about the machine being left in the car park. What’s not to like?

I use Adrian Flux to insure my classic …. Definitely got social, domestic and pleasure in that policy ….

Good idea! If you drove it there yourself, what would you do to make sure the tractor was "safe" while you were at the prom ?
Bound to say I think it`s a dubious idea unless someone can drive you there in a tractor and then take it away...
With the situation you describe I don`t think many insurance companies would be interested - it may very well be cheaper to hire a pair of tractors and drivers to take you and the young lady( or your friend!).... rather than pay a fortune for insurance. A tractor is NOT a toy and driving it needs 100% concentration - this might be a struggle with two excited youngsters in a tractor cab.....
If you can do it your best hope would be to try and find a farmer very local to the venue and meet him outside the gates for a ride in to the prom. We do one every couple of years and usually get the tractor valeted by the lad as payment, works well.
Realise that may be difficult without knowing any local farmers though. Where abouts are you?
No disrespect but I can see why companies are unwilling to hire a tractor to a 16 year old to drive about with his mate, it’s an 8t 50k £100k+ battering ram in inexperienced hands.

Think the reality is you probably need to forget about driving your self with a mate and just get a local farmer to drive you. To be honest he would probably swap seats with you or even walk on in and take over from you once you’ve ‘arrived’. Atleast this way not got to worry about parking etc and wouldn’t cost much; if anything. Most farmers are happy to do things like this for afew beer tokens or a valet etc.
