Got an infestation of woollies. Pleasingly they are congregated on the stony top of the hill where the soil and cc are thinnest, l am hoping that they will continue to fertilise this in preference to the lush ground at the bottom. Oats now flowering, I imagine last night's frost will trim them up a bit.

Fence them at the top of the field, silage mow the lush stuff at the bottom, scoop up with telehandler and tip over the fence to feed them?

It would make a dreadful mess. Think I'll roll a bale or two of straw out to encourage them to hang out there (at the draughtiest spot in Hertfordshire) and at least get a nice shitty mulch

Martian,
that's the approach Greg Judy did explain to me while I toured his farm. He would have the hay bales placed where he wanted "fresh seed" and dung to be applied. So some old hay or straw bale, just rolled out, might be just what you need to get the dung distribution done in your favour. They will walk to the lush "feeding ground" anyway.
=n one of the pages on the internet th3ey show how they made step slopes of ex mining mounts green with growing gras and no more sand storms in the summer. Was reminded of the slate waste hils in Wales when I went to Fishguard in the 80's and did on the way back a little history tour on slate mining.

If Adam Henson is getting a ton to the acre extra after his cover crop, your should give you 3tons extra. Looks well
A couple of years back I had 90ac out of a 110ac field in summer fallow drilled with @Pedders Legumix. The remaining 20ac was drilled with WB the previous autumn.
CC was flailed with residue left on top and the WB harvested. The complete field was then drilled with WW (with freeflow) Harvest year 14 the part of the field after fallow/CC yielded exactly 1 tonne/ac more, still noticed a lift in yield this harvest.
