6m doorway

Recently closed in a bay of a general purpose shed to create a farm workshop.
looking at options for a door/doors.
It’s a 6m bay and around 5.2m high.
Would like to keep the door full width.
Problems are, there’s a grain store to one side of the new doorway with a roller shutter door and I don’t want to obstruct that door with a new sliding door track.
On other side there is a cattle feed bunker in winter so can’t slide a door that way either.
So only options are hinged barn doors but I’m concerned they might need to be too big and heavy and the shed overhang might be an issue for opening, roller shutter door but it would need a personnel door as there’s no other exit/entry. Are they any good with a personnel door? Never used one. Any ideas on prices for a 6m door.
Are galebreaker Agri doors any good?
Does anyone have any ideas or pictures or they’re doors?
Thanks

I have a personnel door in a roller shutter, use it everyday and regret having it every day.

How about having a key or combi safe box with a switch inside to operate an electric roller ?

The roller door to left of the workshop bay is a manual door, don’t enjoy opening it either! The one next to it is electric and it’s a treat! Although had a problem last month, drive chain broke and couldn’t get in to open the doors manually.
So was slightly worried to go electric without a personnel door in the new one in case the door broke or even worse a fire while inside and the door broke!

we have just had a sectional roller door with personnel door fitted to a 6m bay, I can't fault it at the moment, quiet when going up, unlike all our normal roller doors, the personnel door has a good lock and is just like a regular door, very pleased with it, off the top of my head it was £4500 ish plus 750 for the personnel door

Sounds good, is the personnel door fitted right at the edge of the door? Can't find any decent videos on youtube to see how they work.

Haven’t seen them advertised lately but a few years back someone was advertising large up and over doors a bit like for a car garage, available in some very large sizes, 40 foot plus iirc, certainly far bigger than required by the OP. I think it might have been collinson that make the feed bins but not sure on that. No idea how much they would cost or if they were any good but I’d have thought it would be fairly straight forwards to fit a personnel door into a one piece up and over door

Had 2 x roller 11ft wide shutters fitted on shed 25 years ago, one manual and the other 3 phase with a remote (No personnel door)
A security style personnel door at the side of the building has been planned but not yet installed, did have one occasion where the remote for was left inside which resulted in removal of some cladding to gain access but now have half a dozen programmed remotes including 2 in a universal spare key safe 🥴😉
We also have a similar powered door on a lean-to which is single phase and takes over a minute to close (the 3 phase door shuts in about 15 seconds and in much more convenient despite being a taller opening)

how about a door with the rollers at the bottom, same idea as a big sliding gate, you would have to root up some concrete and bury an angle iron in it and leave it sticking up a bit to make a track for the door wheels to slide on.

I see this arrangement at the local scrap centre, for the sliding gate, 20trucks an hour driving over it and it stands up to the abuse

Only disadvantage to that is if you need the shed easy to sweep out.
I used to have manual sliding doors on Henderson bottom rollers like that - worked quite well for over 30 years until we started to use a tractor mounted bucket and the track got a kink in it 🥴🤦🏻‍♂️

Do you need the full 6m?
You could have a 4m door plus 2m of wall - personnel door in this bit, then either a 4m roller shutter or a pair of sliding doors across the new wall.

And whatever width you end up with do remember to allow for the roller shutter vertical guides to be protected from damage by installing them behind the doorway wall ends and out of harms way from a reversing forklift or telehandler.

So when the forklift crashes into them he takes the girder out too! 😂

Sorry, couldn’t resist a joke! Very valid point you were making!

Might be an option to do that, I have homemade racking down one side anyway so actual workshop floor space is more like 5m. Although keeping fullwidth would be nice for combine etc to fit comfortably. Going to get a roller shutter company to come and see what they think in the new year. Theres currently no electrics right at the doorway but going to get some more plug sockets fitted plus some extra lights above work bench. Have one 300w led ufo high bay light at the moment which is good but creates a fair bit of shadow when working at a machine.
