From what you suggest, the passengers will require easy access, so for most SUVs the 7 seaters are only for young agile children. Brightwells Auction up here has a yard full of mini bus type vehicles to choose from. Ex Police, NHS etc

A neighbour is selling his 05 LWB straight van with floor and insulation fitted and hopes for 10k. The current trend for campers is making them ridiculously overpriced.
That's the bit you can't argue with vw. It's a bit like defenders whatever you're opinion you can't knock the resale value. Depends on budget though and whether looking for something new or second hand and how long you're looking to keep it. Either way vw will be top end money and probably hard to find second hand in the spec you want.

Wouldn’t touch a vw transporter. You pay for the name yet they are so poor. Get a transit toureno.
And quote for some tarmac work on the side? Transporter likely cheaper lease though due to sky high residual if you can get one that is.....

I think Toyota make a big MPV type thing?
Jap Import Alphard (or a hi ace with seats) and some interesting options but a van is probably more practical easy to drive but check the v5 as some are “minibuses” and may be a licence or insurance issue or hassle to register as a car

I would get an ex funeral car , mate down village on about going halves on one so we can all go out together ,after lock down and share driving , 😷
