Is £30 an hour about right for an 8ton machine and driver? Portsmouth area

Not far off. I'd want £36ph now. You pay fuel plus transport to & from.

£35 kubota 080-4 would have to be full days though at that price, for one of days I have £40 but don't charge any haulage

What's your kubota like? Are they alright?

Thing with machnery in this size is you can't hire it yourself from places like GAP. You either have to have a local Farming friend or one man band. I have a TB175 and I'm not really fussed if it goes to work or not. If I do go out to work I'd like to be well paid for my skills. I have a NPORS + or - ten ton ticket and insurance so I need to make it pay sometimes and I'll do a proper job for you..There's always someone cheaper like greener grass and I'm not going that way thank you.
Remember I'll come armed with a CAT 4 scanner and try to find any cable/pipe you may think is under where you intend the dig will be if you're prepared to pay for this which I would strongly advise. Your cost, mind if the sh1t hits the fan......

What's your kubota like? Are they alright?

I'd imagine the Kubota is much like my machine & Fab! It'll dig a nice bit of ground in a day given a decent operator.

Don't leave this decision too long but things may be a little sticky this year. I bought mine (2005 machine) in 2008 with 2.5k hours on and we all know how the building trade was like that year!

New 080-5 ready for launch but kubota have old stock -4s so wont be releasing them till all sold.

Kubota would be my choice. Well balanced machine.
