thinking of splitting some fields with electric for next year. How many acres roughly would i need for a grazing platform for 150 cows. I understand im asking how long is a piece of string type questions, with there being so many variables. from weather too grass type and many others factors. for info we're in the North West so rarely drought and i was thinking around 75 acre for the 150. am I going to be short at that?

On a 21 day rotation going into covers of 2800 coming out at 1500 around 90acres.
150 cows eating 15kgdm per day is a demand of 2250 a day.
1300 kgdm/ hectare available.
2250/1300 *21 paddocks 36.34 hectares
Roughly 90 acres.
Assuming you could graze other ground too on the shoulders of the season or in dry periods.

I'm in Pembrokeshire and our grazing platform is 75 acres for 150 cows, I've got 24 hr paddocks of approx 3 acres each so very similar to what you're asking. We don't suffer from drought either and generally have plenty of grass most of the year. We do graze high covers (32 to 3400) which is how we make it work. We do have another 30 acres that I can get to if needed but the main season is 75.
