ADR Axles

Had a 10 stud axle break a few weeks ago on a 12ton silage trailer carting wholecrop , not the first one acordding to guy i got new axle off

Always wondered how overloaded something has to be for this to happen.... We had a 15t marshall on rocking beams and shitty 8 stud stub axles. Regularly taking a 20t payload. Seen it go with 18t in the box then 6 pallets of cement on top. Never broke anything but rocking beams were beefed up a couple of times. That has to be a design problem rather than the axle itself, or it's a really poor quality axle

Heat treated steel not gone through process right? We have hammered granning and other makes for decades with big tyres on offset rims with zero failures.. Made in China?

Granning are made in China now and I would not be surprised if ADR are not thd same ,as you can see it just broke right off were the tapper starts on the axle

Have 4 more the same and older trailers and so far they are all fine

Had a 2000 gallon tanker do it on commercial adr, cant say it was overloaded as you can only fill it full. Before fitting the new axle we beefed it up proper with inch plate right across it, no more bother since. Heard of a few other tankers do it so obviously a problem area

Had the same on an 11 tonne grain trailer when on silage. Nearly new. Western took it back and replaced both axles.
