Steak is the higher priced cuts. Yet you want them to promote the cheaper mince?
So what are you going to do with the steaks etc mince them?

People are leading increasingly busy life's, easy quick meals/ fast food ( the latter rightly or wrongly ) slow cookers etc are the growing trends.. Mince is the key meat that people want/ are using now, people eat products containing mince day/ in out.

Also people cant afford steaks for a family and will instead use things like chicken, either we find ways to compete with these cheaper meats or the sales of beef will fall off a cliff just like is happening with lamb in the UK.

Take a family of four, 4 steaks will cost them £14 at least for one meal, a chicken will cost £6 at most for a meal for 4 people, mince will cost what £5 for a meal with 4 people, which do you think people will buy 2/3 times a week, the steaks or the mince??..........

And more and more people eat out.
Large increases in sales of organic and non milks which are all more expensive.
Christmas food sales increased.
The money is there but need to persuaded people to switch

I'm not sure why it matters if the general public know if there is such a thing as AHDB. I suppose it all comes down to whether producers see the drop of the hammer as job done or as the plate goes into the dishwasher.

Of course it matters that the general public know about the work the AHDB do in regards things like new recipes/ meals/ how to cook beef/lamb etc etc, part of the AHDB's remit is to advertise/ promote our meats to the end user so if the end users don't know about this work ( which most don't ) then something is very wrong with the way the AHDB are promoting their work/ websites etc etc.

I wouldn't read too much into the figures that the supermarkets posted for Xmas because these figures even thou they are classed as food sales actually are for everything the supermarkets sell from booze to cleaning products/ medicines/ etc etc as well as food products.

Will always be a high end market but that accounts for how much % for milk/ beef sales for example?

are you going to go to one of these meetings and put your point of view over ?

Didn't know there were any meetings.

I'm quite involved with AHDB Dairy and like to think I'm getting my monies worth. I'm part of AHDB Dairy discussion group which is monthly. As part of that we have access to AHDBs retained speakers who come and provide some interesting meetings. We've just completed our CFPs and just received something to help me monitor my KPIs which I think will prove useful too.

They also helped me with Honours project only a couple years ago which was great.

Coming up soon there's a grazing meeting with (I'm led to believe by other farmers) a good speaker there too which I'll be attending.

Plus they correlate all the data for UK bull proofs which I also use.

All in all I would think I'm going a fair way to get value for my money.

But the levy is like your licence fee or council tax - when was the last time a levy moaner used a library or watched all the programmes the BBC make? It's impossible to keep everyone happy all the time.

We have to pay this money whether we like it or not - I'm not happy that I have no choice in paying it. But you can either get involved and get your value out of it or dismiss entirely and be miserable. In that regard the choice is all yours.

how much is mince per kg ?
could you afford to sell your animals for the price they would give you if they minced the lot ?
if not then the other joints steaks etc needs promoting as they have to be sold at a higher price or the beef price is going to crash

Im sure if the AHDB dairy board spent thousands sending you pictures showing you the difference between a milking cow and a bulling heifer you wont not be impressed!

Dairy board seem to be doing good work but sadly that is not the case with the beef/ lamb board and other boards like Cereals.
