AHDB - Levy

I don’t think he’s a new member.....
..... he sounds very like an old member who continually bangs the same couple of drums. AHDB is one and he’s obsessed with Peter Kendall and the salaries received by him and others.
Oh, but hang on, he’s a 68 year old vegetable grower so it can’t be who I think it is :rolleyes:
if it is him he should now be banned for setting up a spurious account and talking to himself.

Of course they want to do more of this as it keeps them in jobs and driving expensive cars.
I receive an email called Forage for Knowledge which contains what must be the most useless piece of information about how much the grass has or has not grown.
I can usually work out the grass growth myself when I go out in the morning and check the sheep and cattle.

Or am I just an old fashioned Luddite who cannot see the benefit of AHDB telling me about grass growth!!
assessing grass growth? sometimes I just look out of the window.....

I would have to agree with that. It’s nothing short of enfuriating when I see beggar all growth, whilst the regular emails tell me that someone else is getting 52kg/ha of DM per day (whatever that is in the real world).:banghead:
However, the group meetings where those figures are collected and discussed look quite interesting, and all facilitated by AHDB.

Deffo not me @Bury the Trash and if you think it is me then please ask the mods like @JP1 to check it out and confirm that the new member is nothing to do with me.

But don't forget that ruminant has posted in the past that he/she also work as a consultant and thus no doubt have worked/ do work for the AHDB.

Pleased to see some of you agree just been given 7days to pay my levy of 21,000 which takes my contribution to 300,000 pounds I do not need these people to tell me how to grow vegetables not after 50 years and most their data is taken from seed and chemical companies anyway
That seems a hell of a bill.
How do the ADHB calculate the levy on veg? Per acre? Per tonne? Per cabbage?

I see they spent £78000 on a PhD student for a 2 year study on why courgettes fail to set they worked out that in dry year they are ok in wet year they rot off ought to given me a call could have saved them a lot hassle

We are calculated on turnover even if you make a loss you still have to pay even the hmrc is more understanding I pay £21000 a year but even that is less than some the growers in my area some pay between £50 to £100,000

Personally I find Ahdb levy a valuable source
I used benchmarking last night have been updated with ways to improve my own business and also has the oppertunity to see international trade fairs and the work promoting exports
How many of you have been to an event recently and taken home ideas to improve your business

Thats fine Stevethemeat if you want the information I don't so why should I have to Pay for something I don't want or need i am just paying for your information[/

Not sure what sector your in but the information may get to you indirectly with all due respect you have a big levy bill so could be a high turnover in agricultural products which means you would benefit more if you did utilise the information in your business

The new user is NOTHING to do with me so please don't try and stir up trouble by claiming otherwise.

What is your relship to the AHDB, sounds like you work for them?

Sad state of affairs when people want to have a genuine debate with posts from both sides of that debate very welcome about a topic such as the AHDB and people like you Ruminant try to spin a load of lies to try and shut that debate down!
Blimey. I just gave my opinion. I’ll let others reach their own conclusions. By the way, I don’t hide behind a user name. I’m Tom Chapman from Hertfordshire and I’m not a liar. I don’t suppose you’ll retract your comments, but again it’s no skin off my nose. I will let other forum users draw their own conclusions

Well you are way off the mark if you think I am connected in any way shape or form with the new TFF member who started this thread but if you think I am then please ask the moderators to check it out and confirm that I am/ am not connected to the new user and ask them to post the outcome of the results on this thread because if you do that you will look a right plonker when they confirm I am not connected in any way to the new user.

Can you confirm either way that in your role as a consultant you have/ have never worked for the AHDB or any business that receives funding for them in the name of research??

I don't know that I've ever seen much come out of AHDB that i felt was much help to a man running horn headed ewes out over the peat.

The OP doesn't have any shared IP addresses if that helps extinguish some of the more colourful conspiracy theories :)
