I now have the confidence to order my seed as my agreement has gone live. What are folks using for AHL1? The thing that has got me last minute jitters is this;
'To establish the blocks or strips of pollen and nectar flower mix, you must sow a grass-free
seed mix containing at least 6 flower species. A single species must not exceed 50% of the
total seed mix by weight.'
Are we assuming that is 6 'wildflower' species, or can we view phacelia, buckwheat and clovers as 'flowers'? I'd orignally read it as 'flowering species'. It makes a big difference to the price of these mixes. I have got quotes based on a basic mix with oxeye daisy and knapweed added - not too dissimilar to my AB1 mixes from stewardship. Wondering if that is asking for trouble even though the non wildflowers in there will satisfy the pollen and nectar aims? The thing that set off my indecision is the wildlfower heavy mix on Farmdeals, but my original thought is wildflwoers tend to show a lot more in year two; but there won't be a year two when utilising it as I am, hence the insurance of phacelia etc.
