Most people don’t care. My number is out there anyway (as it’s the way that customers get in touch with me), so I’m afraid I fall into the “most people” category.

Personally, I struggle to see the problem here.

Remember, with end to end encryption, even WhatsApp can’t read your messages.

But it doesn't want to read the messages, it just wants a phone number to attach to your Facebook account.

Now, the interesting thing is that the portion of society which you consider 'most people' may not be quite as overwhelming as you believe. So often I come across people who quietly agree with my objection to handing out my mobile number willy nilly and my refusal to have anything to do with FB or its subsidiaries.

There's already a number on my facebook account - my mobile phone number - that's how I allow my estranged friends to get in touch with me, if they manage to connect (not that they can anyway - my profile is pretty much locked down, unless you know exactly where to look).

FWIW, My number is also on my business cards, company website and any adverts that the company runs, etc. etc.

That's your choice, commercial and peer pressure would seek to deny it to others.

Alexa: 'Juice and whey energy drinks can be ordered on line from Amazon'

Data generated by means of counting and alphabetization equipment supplied by IBM Google/Amazon through its German and other national subsidiaries was instrumental in the efforts of the German governments to concentrate and ultimately destroy ethnic Jewish populations (or any other group) across Europe

With apologies to Wikipedia -

My vote goes for Scribus. Can't think of any of his posts I disagree with so far.
Tbh I thought he was a bit of a tin foil hat wearing crank to start with but he has stood his ground regardless and put forward some valid points.

Everybody is allowed an opinion, agree with it or not.

Absolutely, and I agree with a lot of the concerns, just not with the aggressive manner in which they are argued, nor with the level of hyperbolic nonsense he claimed. Comparing Clive to a facist and calling others such things as two dimensional, mindless, brain rot, unthinking and the likes, does not help the debate one bit. Just like vegans, there’s an implied sense of self superiority, and looking down on others, which I find distasteful, when so many have told us how the devices help their elderly and infirm relatives to lead independent lives.

When my freedom and liberty to operate independently of commercial or state interests is threatened I get visceral, Amazon, Microsoft, Google et al aint playing games, and neither am I.

Happy for you to chose not to, and for some aspects I agree with you (based on my own personal circumstances), but it’s inappropriate to suggest that the rest of the world are all collectively not as clever as you because they don’t exactly follow the path you have chosen.

Read that students hacked into a smart speaker from over 100m using a low power laser and telescope.
Accessed via the small mic hole in the speaker case.
