as a dairy novice what are the main differences between fresians and Holsteins?

a good few litres….someone had to say it

Everyone got their popcorn?:D

I have nothing against the Holstein. The more Holsteins there are - the higher the average cost of production, the more money us lesser farmers with "low yielders" make;)

I will let @Ducati899 ,@Clay52 and @More to life extol the virtues of the Holstein.

Friesians are capable of good yields of solids from high forage based diets, are usually smaller framed animals with less maintenance requirements, less health problems, considerably longer living, higher calf value, more fertile and better grazers. For a start
Really, im surprised so many people keep holsteins if this is the case and foot/health problems, low lifespan and reliance on concentrates is what puts me off dairy, are holstein contracts easier to get or something?

Figures that speak for themselves, only slightly lower milk quality, plenty more of it though and thousands of them.

Amazing as apparently, they don't get back in calf go off their feet and die for a pastime!.

I could say many things about production levels and profitability but I don't want to stir this particular pot :sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
