Well, plod do have a duty to investigate. Get them to accept a caution, then farmer can set the insurers on them for the biosecurity clearup costs. The only way these dicks will stop is when they get a big, big bill.
They would Just set up a just giving page with a cute looking calf as their front pic there’s so many gullible people around they’d hit their target sharpish I bet 🙄

That's fair enough. But the point is that it's up to the farmer to get the police involved; the police are obliged to investigate. Then you need to push them and push them and push them to do their jobs. Because once you have the criminal conviction then the door opens for claims, and the door shuts for jobs.

Not true.
We had 2 dogs stolen in August, We reported them as stolen to the Police.
2 months later 1 of them ran out of a travellers site 120 miles away & fortunately a lady grabbed it & took it to a vet with a chip reader who then contacted us & we fetched it.
Speaking to the Police, They expected the other dog to be at the same location but they would not go in. It turns out that our police do not record animals as 'stolen' but record them as 'missing'. This saves them having to investigate & it is 1 less recorded crime.

So if you had evidence at the time that they had been stolen, why didn't they record them as stolen? Again, the police have a job to do and if you as a victim of crime don't think they have done it then you have to bang the drum until they do.
