Another KRM problem.

We’ve got the same problem here but with a new base spec amazone. 3rd one we’ve had, the last 2 have always been spot on but this one seems hopeless. The amazone chart settings are way out, both us and the dealer have bucket Calibrated it several times and think it’s right, then it’s still miles out in the field. Lots of head scratching at the moment

I can’t see why if it’s calibrating right it is then over dosing in the field. Only thing I can think of is that the adjitators are forcing the material through at a higher flow rate than with the disc not running.

Out of interest how did your previous spreader get so badly damaged?
Was getting ready to put some nitram on rape last August.put 3bags in and then realised I could not get desired level as top link in wrong hole on tractor.let spreader down and altered top link to bottom hole on tractor.lifted machine on mudguard buttons to refit top link on spreader and the whole lot over balanced and went over backwards and done a whole lot of damage, guards, discs, vanes, driveshaft, gearbox etc.refitted machine then it would not work,so crawled under to see if there was a shear bolt broken and I sliced the top of my head open.lots and lots of blood.visit to a and e and concussion too.was due to rain too so I was rushing to get done too.not something I’m keen to do again.

That’s what we can’t make out. The only thing is if the calibration equation amazone are using is somehow incorrect but that’s unlikely.

You were lucky you weren’t in the way when the spreader tipped over nick, looking on the bright side

With our first krm spreader the rates were always different to the settings, had the rep out and he noticed the quadrant had been assembled on the machine incorrectly, we reassembled it and it put it right.

Lots of variables to consider, the main one being changing the machine. The Nitram batch density may have changed, it would be worth checking. Is your tractor clock still accurate ? (If the spreader calibrates correctly, then this rules that out). 10% is not allot during a calibration check, however it is over lots of hectares, check again.

Gravity inside the spreader has an influence on flow rate, as does steep land.

How accurate are the scales you are using?

We’ve been using digital hanging scales that came with the new drill 2 years ago, it displays to 2 decimal places. The amazone provided scales are analogue so we assumed the digital ones are more accurate?

It might be worth us doing a bucket test while actually driving over a 100m length maybe? Just to see if that’s different to stationary?

Do you know for certain your forward speed is correct and you are not going slower than speedo ???

Dad speed tested it with the dealer the other day to check, as the tractor is on bigger wheels than it came home on so the speedo is out. It did 100m in 33 seconds which worked out as 11kph so we have been working off that.

Readings to the tens of grams does not necisserily mean it is that accurate, although cheap doesn't necisserily mean inaccurate either. Ideally you want to calibrate scales using known weight, bags of sugar are hardly Weights & Measures approved, but can do for a quick check.

With digital scales, make sure the battery is good. As the battery gets flat, they can still work, but give spurious readings.

That’s a good point.
The dealer has concluded today that they don’t know what to do with the amazone and it must be a Friday afternoon job so have offered us a full refund or a replacement amazone spreader. The replacement certainly won’t be an amazone [emoji23] just a mystery after the previous 2 ZAMs have been perfect

May depend on the model, on some you remove the vanes on one side and catch what spins off into a plastic canopy thing and drops into a bucket, you enter this weight in the control box.
On mine I've noticed the calibration tool partly covers the outlet,no wonder my calibration has been way off when field spreading!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
