Theresa Villiers has held her seat by a slim 1212 majority.

Do the collective think she will keep her role in the reshuffle or will we see a change again. Maybe Gove back again?

I hope for a change as from what I hear and understand she hasn't been very understanding or got a grasp of UK agriculture.

Would have been better if she had lost her seat.Johnson has no reason to move her.

Red Tractor draft code 2020:

"Farrowing
Defra has set out its intention to phase out farrowing crates within the document, but there is, as yet, no timescale for this to happen, the NPA said. Farrowing crates must continue to allow the sow enough space and provide her with sufficient room to rise and lie down without difficulty."

a cousin was advising gove, in defra, while he was there, and spoke very highly of him, under him, defra moved up the scale in government, and he fought hard for us, he didn't have much to say about Villiers.
As he was a full time farmer, such remarks reflect the farming view.

farming and environment would do well under him over the next 5 years

That's the crux of it though. Whoever gets the job needs to be told, on accepting it, that they will stay for the duration and not see it as a temporary gig until something more sexy comes available. If food, farming and the environment is going to be given the higher profile it will surely need, then the commitment that only comes with knowing you are stuck with the job is crucial.
Wont happen though.

I would like to see Gove back

I know he gets bad press but having met him he is not a bad guy, is extremely intelligent and really does”get it” re the link between viable farming, food, environment and health

I had very low hopes for the bloke, but he did a lot in his time there. I would like to see him return and continue pushing an agenda of change.

From what I hear, Gove could go into a room with 3 people with alternate views converse with them all and all 3 would come away thinking that he agreed with them!

Gove is supposedly up for promotion so won't be going back "down" to Defra, which is always protrayed as one of the lowliest positions of government.

Villiers hasn't really had a chance to have any influence from what I've seen.

How about George Eustice? Experienced in the role, countryside background and a Boris supporter. It would certainly be nice to have some continuity and stability from a Defra minister for a change.

He was nicknamed George Useless for a reason....
