Anti social bird scarer use.

Here's how it goes with our local council EH.
They don't respond for 3 weeks to a month.
They then turn up on a day when the wind is blowing the other way and sit in a field entrance with the engine running and window open less than 2 inches with the radio on whilst playing with apple or Samsung smart phone for 45 minutes then leave without speaking to complainant. Three days later a letter arrives stating that (based on the 45 minutes they were there) they do not consider the noise which bears a very good resemblance to Northern Ireland in the early seventies, to be a "statutory nuisance". CASE CLOSED, don't bother contacting us about future issues unless it's 50 feet from your property and firing all night. Cash back hander carefully squirreled away in said council operatives holiday fund tin would be an educated guess.
Or for the 45 mins they were there it didn't go off! They can't write a report on what didn't happen, if you observed the EH officer so clearly did you here the banger while he was present?

If you saw them there then go and talk to them!!
Same as adding your contact details to the devices.
Pro-active "nagging" gets results .......it would certainly get more done than posting on t`internet!

Of they just carefully chose their "visit day", one on which there was a 40-50 knott wind blowing the opposite way to the normal prevailing wind so there was next to nothing to hear. They don't come in a car with an orange beacon on the top and "Council EH Officer" on the sides so it was only after the letter arrived we were able to put two and two together and realised it wasn't just some random pot smoking chav parked there. I don't think we have had 45 minutes in daylight hours without one banging away within earshot for 15 years, they don't even turn them off on Christmas day.

Michael Williams bird scarers do not have photo cells to detect daylight, timer only.

Not true. I bought a Michael Williams Bangalor Bomber in the eighties that had a photocell.

The new ones don't and they are louder than ever, I thought they were supposed to mimmick shotgun noise but they are more like an anti aircraft gun. All day yesterday again (Sunday). Antisocial to**pots!

And then you would be done for theft! Gas guns are not cheap. Get in touch with the landowners, find out which contractor is managing the land where the problem bangers are and get contact details for them and speak to them face to face in a pleasant manner. As said above some gas guns have dodgy light meters so can work in the night. There are now gas guns that can be controlled with a phone app but there wont have been many of those sold yet.
Problems can be solved you might just have to put some effort in. Wish my gas guns worked as well as it sounds like these ones do. I have enough trouble getting the dam things to make a bang at all!
Nobody will disclose the names of either land owners, growers or contractors any more due to "GDPR regulations"..lock down has been lovely with one going off every ten to fifteen minutes behind the house since end of April dawn till dusk. Six shots at a time at one point, ten minutes apart. And farmers want sympathy and respect from the general public???????

The good Lord helps them that helps themselves. My initial sympathy evaporated some time ago.

Reprogramme it. You can have longer intervals and less bangs. I doubt a lazy operator would even notice you'd done it - they would certainly notice if you'd cut the wires & hose or turned it off.

I'm starting to think that if this problem were solved, the OP would have nothing to be miserable about, so a solution is not actually the objective; instead this particular issue is merely a source of the sense of fulfilment brought on by a good whinge.

I think slight exaggeration is at play here.

FFS if it's banging all day every day just go turn the gas off.

Sounds like somebody just likes to moan
Not into "criminal acts" and couldn't run down the field and mess with the thing due to bad health , no doubt they have trap cameras set up anyway as the gypos sometimes have them away. It's just the gross pig ignorant thoughtless use of the damn things that makes my p*ss boil when they are used near people's houses for weeks on end. It's not "the jolly local farmer" that owns it, they are long gone. It'll be one of the big business veg growers that have the council in their pockets don't give a sh!t about anything but profits.

Which county are you in?

I had local youths “youvs” vandalising everything at 1 farm I worked at, cut silage Bales open overnight, burn any straw Bales left out overnight etc.
had a banger bottle and battery nicked from behind the local “estate” on its first night out. The next day we went down with the telehandler and put it 7m high up a tree :finger:

for those that can’t keep them dry, cut a 40gal drum in half or in 2/3rd lengthwise so it suits over the expensive bits and just the barrel is sticking out. Have it so it touches the ground either side and either put rods either side and string across to keep the wind From blowing it off or put a weight ontop, saves all the expensive bits getting wet.

I’m smelling bullish!t on this one.

1. Turning off a gas bottle is not a criminal act.
2. Who said anything about running down a field, take a nice leisurely stroll
3. Trap cameras? Bit of a wild assumption there, but what does it matter, your polite note left would have your details on it anyway.
4. You keep mentioning the council being in the growers pocket and backhanders of cash being paid. Think you need to stop watching 1950’s mafia movies or A-Team re-runs :ROFLMAO:

Looks like you’ve used up all your sympathy votes, constantly moaning on the internet over a period of months about something rather than actually doing anything active about it is generally considered to be moaning for the sake of attention seeking.

He seemed to have managed to go down to the banger and noted the settings earlier in the thread, but won’t now.
It seems like the whole world is against him all the time from his posts, I wonder if that hints a little that he may share some character traits with a curtain Victor Meldrew?

Shouldn’t be a problem as from this Autumn because nobody will grow Rape due to CSFB.
And those that are brave enough to try, will get their crops inundated with pigeons as well as the CSFB.

Can’t wait not to have to worry any more about Rape, CSFB or the bangers!
