When i had my 90 200tdi i always wanted to fit a Nissan Patrol 3.3 engine as they have a similar sound to a Cummings but the same output as a 200tdi so the gearing would stay the same but they are like hens teeth to get hold of

Moved the intercooler back a tad towards the engine on Saturday and today I started to fit the new intercooler hoses trying different ways and settled on fitting the intercooler upside down, the local motorist's shop didn't have any suitable hose clips in so I've had to order them in and with the new aftermarket intercooler having 60mm inlet and outlets I've had to order 2 x 60mm x 50mm reducer's as the original intercooler's are 50mm.

anyway here's some pic's :)

Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about defenders. That said I have bought an old 110 pick up with an Isuzu 2.8td engine. I need to replace floor pans and side sills. Easy job? I have always liked them and decided to buy a toy for the rest of the year. A query, any better engines that can be fitted with out to much work? I’m no electrician.

Even though Isuzu is a good name that particular engine isn't very good for a Defender so I believe, there are another couple of jap engines you could look at both 6 cylinder jobbies one is a Mazda and the other is a Nissan, Landyzone forum is the best place to ask about them as there are a few members on there that have them :)

All Australian Land Rover Perentie’s (Australian Army) are fitted with a 3.9L Isuzu turbo diesel. They are widely regarded as an excellent engine, very reliable and oodles of grunt. Having said that, if you stick a Land Rover engine in a Land Rover it’s pretty straight forward!

It currently has a 2.8 Isuzu 4 cylinder the guy put in it. Don’t know what it’s like for towing to be honest. Quite fancy some thing better in it though and more fun. A bit more up to date, but economical. I hate putting fuel in vehicles. Nice tdv6 wouldn’t go amiss!

Hmm... economical and fun don’t necessarily go hand in hand!

A V configuration is most certainly the way to go, but may I suggest the addition of 2 more cylinders, runs on petrol and has a capacity of between 3.5L and 4.6L!

Don’t f**k about, do the job properly! You know it makes sense!!!!

Very true, fine line between fun and economical. I like Diesel engines. Deep this. Dirty down low power. Quite like a 5 cylinder out of an old vw. Nice and mechanical with plenty of poke. A v6 diesel would be great.

Just bought a Mercedes 606 engine off eBay, A transplant has been done before by gaz-fab on YouTube so can buy the marrying plate. It also comes out of my favourite car of all time. Mercedes e300.

I've decided to go with rubber rad hoses rather than silicon rad hoses as it would be too expensive using silicon, twice the price it cost doing the intercooler hoses so I've ordered the hoses I need and should be here by weekend.

Looking good, but think you will have problems fitting the bonnet with that fan, suggest you use the factory one or if you must go electric, try a Kenlowe.
