Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about defenders. That said I have bought an old 110 pick up with an Isuzu 2.8td engine. I need to replace floor pans and side sills. Easy job? I have always liked them and decided to buy a toy for the rest of the year. A query, any better engines that can be fitted with out to much work? I’m no electrician.

All Australian Land Rover Perentie’s (Australian Army) are fitted with a 3.9L Isuzu turbo diesel. They are widely regarded as an excellent engine, very reliable and oodles of grunt. Having said that, if you stick a Land Rover engine in a Land Rover it’s pretty straight forward!
It currently has a 2.8 Isuzu 4 cylinder the guy put in it. Don’t know what it’s like for towing to be honest. Quite fancy some thing better in it though and more fun. A bit more up to date, but economical. I hate putting fuel in vehicles. Nice tdv6 wouldn’t go amiss!
Hmm... economical and fun don’t necessarily go hand in hand!
A V configuration is most certainly the way to go, but may I suggest the addition of 2 more cylinders, runs on petrol and has a capacity of between 3.5L and 4.6L!
Don’t fudge about, do the job properly! You know it makes sense!!!!
Do not know as it was a replacement for one supplied by Foleys that rusted away!!!!!Good price
Looking good, but think you will have problems fitting the bonnet with that fan, suggest you use the factory one or if you must go electric, try a Kenlowe.View attachment 697174 View attachment 697176 View attachment 697178 View attachment 697180 View attachment 697182 View attachment 697184 View attachment 697186 View attachment 697188 Moved the intercooler back a tad towards the engine on Saturday and today I started to fit the new intercooler hoses trying different ways and settled on fitting the intercooler upside down, the local motorist's shop didn't have any suitable hose clips in so I've had to order them in and with the new aftermarket intercooler having 60mm inlet and outlets I've had to order 2 x 60mm x 50mm reducer's as the original intercooler's are 50mm.
anyway here's some pic's
