Anyone know about gravity separators?

Owing to a rash moment I'm now the proud owner of what I think is a vacuum type gravity separator, made by Buhler.

I have a manual for it and a vague idea how it works, but don't know how much suck to put on the top of it, or even what type of suck that needs to be, fan type etc etc.

Any one else got one, used one etc?

I appreciate this is towards the niche end of the cropping spectrum... but any experiences are welcome!

The ones I’ve seen have a fan which blows from below the vibrating table. The grain is introduced on one side and then ‘hovers‘ across the table and separates into different fractions.

Thanks- i think this one though sucks from above I think, drawing air up through the table.

I have one and the suck up does not help it work, I added a canopy to suck up so as to get dust out the building and nothing more. You set the slopes and bottom air along with speed to get water fall of grain all the way from the top to bottom.

Have a word with the lads on the seed cleaner wagon, they all have similar. Maybe more commonly Westrup but same principle I expect.

We have one, kip kelly machine old and relatively slow but a seasoned operator can get it to do wonders on improving bushel weight ,basic cleaning , lifting protein a bit , and raising quality of hss, removing weed seed ergot and other extraneous matter. Really useful on osr . As a general rule the screenings should be recleaned and fed on farm otherwise they are a problem to deal with plus the weight loss re any financial benefit has to be taken into account.

Thanks- don't think this one has any air at all though- it looks like it all comes from suction above, with a big adjustable butterfly valve in the pipe coming out of the top- there's nothing to blow air from the bottom

Really?... can we have a picture... mine has a very fine mesh bed with air vanes under it to refine air flow to suit the place on the bed, when running its like a gentle simmering of grain, if it "boils" its too much air., the main power demand is to run up the fan.

Will get picture in the morning, but the only motor on this is one with eccentric weights that wobbles the deck. The deck itself is fine mesh on an ally frame, with a plate with holes through it on the bottom. The whole thing is pretty much airtight otherwise, with little windows to look through.

As far as I remember, the gravity on the CYO wagon is as you describe; a centrifugal suction fan above, and a motor with an eccentric doing the shaking from below.

Yup, definitely nothing to provide air it seems
