Pictures above making me feel very depressed - not a bale of anything made here yet, fields are sodden and weather looking less and less likely as time goes on :(

The Scottish forecast changes every 5 minutes - even if we had a bit of dry weather the fields are so wet its going to make a mess getting onto them. I always reckoned that trying to dry hay on damp ground was a lost cause. The swath was always getting soaked from the moisture evaporating from the ground below. Even turning it over onto a 'dry' patch resulted in the bottom getting soaked. Now getting low temperatures over night which will cause even more condensation under the swath.

We had a little shower this morning.

Ha, methinks the severe weather warning for Essex is guaranteeing another dry day.......

Then,

Barley harvest over for the day then. No need to hook the mower on either.

I would say a lot of hay made early on will be wells ought after. Anything now is just dead standing up. So much stuff that should have been done last month, nothing looking too promising this week, can't even get 2 days fine together to make some haylage.

I'm pinning my hopes of getting some more half decent hay made on a decent start to September and by then the fields I mowed in June will have a decent bit to cut on them, especially if it rains on and off for the next 3 weeks. Can't see the 1st cut that I have still to do will amount to much even if the weather turns up, which it really doesn't look like doing anyway. Have made some really nice second cut meadow hay in early Sept before, saved my year back in 2009, so looks like we'll have to do it again.
