Hi, I have APHA coming tomorrow for a 48hr inspection. They say they want to see "all stock and medicine and death records" ... can anyone tell me what to expect?

Cheers! Joe

When they've seen all that, they'll pick some ear tag numbers, from your animal record (about 6, IIRC) and then want to see the animals with those tags in their ears.

We had this a couple of years ago. Wanted to check every passport against that animal and see all the records. Luckily we were only calf rearing at that point but there was about 150 calves from memory in pens of 10. He was quite happy to get on with it and work through it himself. Would probably have been more work for us if it was big cattle.

How did you get on in the end? I had a visit today and the med/nfsco records and animals were fine but I got a telling off for needing some "housekeeping" (ie tidying up) around the yards where my old junk lives. The folks were fair enough though and I need a kick sometimes to get going.: :)

Had one in January. Phoned the day before I was going on holiday. He said, obviously, could only give 24hr notice so couldn't leave it a week. He said that someone must be looking after the animals and that maybe they'd point him the right direction.

I said I'd leave all Passports available, but explicitly, explained that remaining staff would not have time to help him look through 400 animals. But he was welcome to look through himself.

He did indeed arrive and, by all accounts, quickly gave up looking at eartags. He knew we had a TB test booked a fortnight later and so returned on the 2nd day of testing to go through all eartags. Fortunately he came the 2nd day and not the first 🤫😀
