Apps

I was recently ordered to get my first 'smart' 'phone, so I did.

I'm not using it for calls etc. yet, but I have started to learn how to use it, and so I'm looking at getting a few apps that will be useful and / or of interest. I don't mind getting free ones or paying for 'better' ones if they really are better.

I'll be grateful for suggestions for the following: plant identification; insect / invertebrate identification; fish identification; bird identification; accounts; others of use in livestock farming.

There seem to be any number of these on the market, but personal recommendation is probably the best way to go.

Thanks in advance.

The TFF app is great on a phone, unless you've got an apple. PlantNet is great for flowers, not used it much on the farm other than the bird seed/pollen+nectar.

I haven't found a weather app that is better than looking out the window.

Audible is a life saver if you spend long in the tractor.

What3words is excellent.

Google earth has street view.
waze is a fantastic guidance app for the car all updated by users so speed cams and traffic etc
Google drive for saving manuals etc to view in the workshop.
whatsapp for sending dodgy pics to the mrs/bit on the side.
natwest banking app (or whichever bank)
print to size..... it's surprisingly difficult to print from the phone at the right size.
hullomail which is an answerphone app that converts voice messages to text for a quick glance.

I use FreeAgent for my accounts so have the app on my phone. For entering expenses, it’s easier than using the laptop, but for most other stuff the laptop is better.

AMEX and Barclaycard, for handling that -usually pay my bills on the apps as quicker than otherwise.

Dropbox

Zoom

Whatsapp - should be your first app and will transform messaging for you. Much easier to see a conversation thread and can include photos, videos, plus have video calls etc.

Whatever webcam app you prefer, to suit the lambing camera/ security system you have.
