Auctioneer Chant

With the rapid demise of physical auctions, I wondered if there were still any good "singing" auctioneers?

My us family in Nebraska often send videos of the cattle auctions, and auctioneering is actually competitive. Maybe ten years ago was my last trip to the brown & co / p&b auction at Brigg and there was an auctioneer there who had a nice chant.

Anywhere in the UK worth a visit ( post Corona) where it's worth the trip just to hear the auctioneer?

These guys are fast!

Personally I think they're wasting a lot o air gibbering like that!!
John Thompson at Thornhill mkt years ago said bid couple o times like he was talking to you. Clear, precise and was known to pause for a mouthful o tea from cup, then start again with "now where were we" no rush and a one off.
Never seen another auctioneer like him, but when you were buying used to think just chap them doon before somebody else decides to bid again😄

On holiday in the Lakes some years ago, the ladies wanted to go shopping so a pal an I went to have a look at the sheep sale on in Penrith.
I thought I had been around a few auctions over the years but I couldn’t catch up with this chap, I m no sheep man but they were selling bunches of ewe labs I decided, but for how much... good job I wasn’t a buyer !

Think, in fact I know the swallows were bidding at times.
Remember getting yow lambs chapped down to me at £2 above my last bid, when I went to office to pay he was behind counter and before I got to clerk he came forward and took me behind counter. As I started to say, he just said the price o my last bid and he'd sort it!!!
Mind you on the other hand he possibly did same with my lambs at times and I'd gain a bid or two😉

There are 2 great auctioneers that I listen to on a Wednesday in enniscorthy. The one that sells the older stock kinda sings along, and the one that sells the calves sounds a bit older I could listen to him all day. Onw week he sold a calf for 5 euro and when the buyer asked him about a luckspenny he gave him some run lol
