Expect mine will be ready next week so here ends the drought...
View attachment 692472 Baled up what I cut on Sunday . 10 bales to the acre, so exactly 2 ton acre.
Very white straw, same as the grain.
Finished the barleys - now on to the oats.
Yield and quality still as predicted last month, so far (see above).
Disappointing it is, very, all round, but not unexpected.
edit :- currently 6 days ahead of 1976 (finished barley that time 17th July). Not a very good omen for what's to come.
Ours isn’t far off, probably start on Rape Sunday.Very surprised to hear your oats are fit as I haven't seen any so far that are near harvest.

Sold plenty of straw over the years of the same size from the same baler , to know that there’s 5 to the ton.Have you put every bale over a weighbridge??
Because if you haven't its just a guess that you have had 2 ton acre of straw!
4 string D1000 type? Do you usually get around 10 per acre?Sold plenty of straw over the years of the same size from the same baler , to know that there’s 5 to the ton.
Yes, of winter barley4 string D1000 type? Do you usually get around 10 per acre?

Got a bit to do that's supposedly up to 6 days earlier than Mascani.

What are oat bushel weight like?
Which winter oats would you say gives a good yield of both straw and grain and has good standing power?
.Started my light labs barley today; glacier, a real let down. Well under the expected 3 ton on this land. Very uneven seed size. Plenty of needles. Hopefully the other 2 row and 6 rows will do better on heavier land. Straw v bleached. Moisture got down to 12.5.
Yes same with losses. Seed going over not big enough to register but I guess if it’s that light I don’t want it in the sample tbh. Will be some green strips appearing if it ever rains again.
Our glacier looks like being the same, not sure on yield yet only half way through the first field, but guessing it's nearer 2 and a half at a guess, also struggling to stop it going over the back with it being poor grain
I’m disappointed with Belfry yield, some ears are dwarf like and only half-length and others plants around it have full length ears... have you noticed that? Wondering if I’ve cocked up or it’s varietal
