Barrier teat dips

I’ve been using Delaval Blockade for over 10years with excellent results but just priced some up and at £725 for 200litres (with a further price rise expected) I’ve about fallen off my chair in shock!

I understand that Iodine has gone up a lot but surely not to that extent?

What other barrier dips are other people using and what are you paying for them please?

Reluctant to move away from Blockade when it has been so effective at controlling environmental mastitis, but interested to hear what others are using

Thanks

Are these prices quoted for a dip that you dilute? If not, they're very expensive. I buy deosan idocare £90??/20 litres. That makes up 100 litres, dilution rate 4:1. Pre COVID it was £45.

I made the mistake of buying a cheap as chips chlorohexadine last year

It was sh!t, mastitis was fine, cells grew but that could have been coincidental with environmental factors
But, it was 2 thirds the price of a iodine barrier dip but it only dip half the number of cows.

With iodine I can comfortably do 40 cows with 1 teat cup, can even stretch it to 50. But with the cheap chlorohexadine I was struggling to do 30 cows which makes it as expensive as the barrier dip.

I would be interested in which barrier dip people do go for in the end as I need a new barrel and they all seem expensive :/

I’ve used pink stuff ,blue stuff ,thick glue like stuff and yet always come back to an iodine teat spray/dip and the cheaper the better
After all it’s been used in operating theatres in hospitals since the year dot so can’t be that bad

3 questions from someone who farms grazing rats.
What is a barrier dip/spray compared to standard type?
What is pvp iodine?
Has anyone moved from a standard ‘spray’ to a very expensive one and had noticeable improvements in scc and clinicals?
