Bateman pump overhaul

Spray pump? I refurbished the pump on my hi lo about 10 years ago using generally available parts from any decent sprayer parts shop. Then last year replaced the entire pump with a new one as the old one was over 30 years old, obsolete and really beyond repair. New equivalent annovi reverberi was about £1k which wasn’t too bad I thought. Had to adapt a few of the pipe connections to get the new equivalent pump in but so far so good.

Did you repair it yourself?
Yes. It was just a case of unbolting the 6 diaphragm housings and replacing the diaphragms. Some had split and were allowing the pump oil to leak out into the spray and spray to mix with the pump oil. The pump oil was creamy as a result. You could replace the valves at the same time but I didn’t bother. They were OK. If the pump is more badly worn than that then I’d enquire about a shop refurbed or new pump. The diaphragms lasted about another 10 years for us but finally then we decided to go far a new pump as it was obsolete and corrosion was lifting the plastic coating off the various parts making it difficult to get water tight reassembly.

All the parts are available from Kramp and most decent dealerships will stock diaphragms. Last time I priced complete a pump (RB15) it was around £1200 but unless there’s been a catastrophic failure it will probably be less than £150 for a set of diaphragms, gaskets and crank bearings.
There’s not much in there to be fair.
