Why do people not push them harder earlier? We'll have year old charolais at similar weights. Some of those are almost 2.
Not all cattle can be pushed like a Charley. I killed a home bred heifer this week out of my store pen, just under 30month, 650kg on its feet, was a 4H :(. Mother was dairyXAA father my stock bull BBXLim.

No we don't - but I think we should seriously consider a TFF bus trip one weekend, just to see how the other half live :sneaky:

I'm sure @gone up the hill @Henarar @cattleman123 et al would buy us all a bacon butty or two:whistle:
Surely have to go on a two week trip? One for the dropping trade, one for the rising trade? That way we’d all feel the sedgemoor trade for real;)(y)

Stirks were selling well yesterday but most of what I saw sold was better quality I didn't get there early enough to see the little ones they have in first sold
Young-un said stores were not so good this week but I didn't go in there

I take my hat off to you guys who can make these older, native grass fed cattle pay, they probably do eat very well, but with such small margins I am very weary to try myself.
Feeding intensively for the last 6 to 9 months I feel is the only way to get enough throughput to be commercially viable.

Isn’t that the very reason most of those breeds were disappearing into oblivion, until a few premium schemes came along to support them? Those premiums only make up for the lower weights though of course.
