Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

city boys love the instability its a chance to make or loose a fortune , its easier with someone else/s cash though
In some cases it is someone else’s cash if it’s tick off the mart or borrowings I suppose. Nevertheless the gamble is fun. I don’t bet on horses, don’t put the lottery on, won’t put a pound in the bandit but sheep now that’s a different matter altogether

He is far too negative all the time about anything and everything and thus im not surprised the wool price was at such low prices under his tenure at the wool board if he talked the wool trade down to buyers like he does the cattle/sheep price all the time! ( no offence intended Frank )

Supermarkets have stated in the event of a no deal prices will rise across the board for food and they predict beef/lamb prices rising by 20/30 % and the last thing any supermarket wants is rising prices..

“No offence intended”? How can @Frank-the-Wool not take offence when you are slating his posts like that?:scratchhead:

Obviously what he posts is only his opinion, but he does at least back it with reasoned argument.

My apologies in advance, just in case you think I’m ‘bullying’ you again by disagreeing when you slate someone personally because their posts don’t sit well with you.

Some people are petrified that hoggs will be £60 in April and get laughed at
Some people are petrified that the mart will ring up in April and say hoggs are £150 when they haven’t got any to sell
That’s why I always keep hoggs over

I’d be surprised if they were £60. Hogget numbers can only be short, and Spring lamb numbers will be well down due to poor numbers everywhere from the drought at tupping. Even with no exports at all, the home trade will stop prices dropping that low imo.
I suspect we won’t see the unsustainably high prices of last Spring though, when butchers were burning tenners just to keep lamb on the counter.
IF we are to see prices falling off a cliff, it will be later in the season, when home supply numbers exceed home demand (hopefully it won’t come to that but....).

Im not slating his posts, im just saying he is far too negative all the time and talks the trade down for no good reason.

Stop trying to stir up trouble and make false claims about other people slating someone else's post when they are not doing that at all, very clear you are doing that just to make yourself look clever Neilo, very very sad.

Not trying to be ‘clever’ at all, but I do dislike the attempted belittling of a valued and informed contributor to this forum, without whom this would be a poorer place, imho.

One man’s ‘negative’ posts are another man’s realism. Hoping everything will work out great in the end, doesn’t necessarily make it so, although we obviously all hope that will be the case. Closing your mind to the very real possibilities ahead won’t make them go away either, more’s the pity.

The pound is stronger than this time last year by around 3%. The reason for this is the City don't believe we will be leaving the EU in the short term. It is still getting stronger but of course who knows what the lunatics in Parliament will do next.
Last year's very high prices were the result of supermarkets doing deals with abattoirs for half priced legs of lamb that did not exist. No one in the abattoirs are going to be doing these contracts again.

Yes I believe the price will be good in April/May due to Ramadan being early so the Festival will be in May and the numbers are lower. With the one proviso that if the lunatics say we leave on 29th March with no deal then we will be shafted. In which case finished lambs/hoggets could be £60.00.
None of us knows, but it is wise to look at the exchange rate as this will have the greatest effect on prices between now and the end of March.

Some store cattle sold recently (not the best) after having been kept for 9 months have been the same price as they were bought for last May!

Yep here we go again with your crusade to troll/ bully people that you dont like/ agree with.. quite pathetic and everyone else but you and a couple of others are totally fed up with it and would rather threads were kept on topic.

Frank has his views and I have mine, he has every right to post his views on what trade will be just like I have every right to post what I think trade will be like, I respect that he has different views to mine but that doesn't mean I have to agree with him, as for who will be right, well only time will tell that one either way.

On Friday you said your hogs had all gone for the season . Make your mind up.
How many ewes are you lambing ?

I think you need to actually read posts properly!!

What I said was that im done with hoggs this season and the sooner the ones I have left are gone the better because the grass/ forage crops are needed for ewes and lambs.

How many marts would give you tick to buy store lambs? Or rather which ones?:sneaky:
