A strongly worded text from Shrewsbury market. Sounds like folks aren’t complying with rules .View attachment 893257
Most markets are putting statements out because people attending can be traced ,and if one goes down with the virus any markets they have been too will be shut down for 14 days. Markets would love to welcome everybody back but are still asking people not to attend unless they really need to. We will be stuffed if markets start shutting. Still far to many numptys just turning up for chat .

Lighter lambs hindering the trade I believe. People panic selling for fear of a drop id imagine.

Not lighter lambs hindering it... unfinished lambs...

A lamb can be 35kg and not finished but folk will still send it because people don’t seem to handle sheep anymore they put them in the scales and then cry the market has ripped them off when they’ve not had a good pay day...
generally people who send deadweight handle there lambs a lot more as they know what spec feels like and won’t send unfinished lambs

Finish is more important than weight. At the current prices it’s a compromise for sure!
I’ve got mule whethers that can be a 4L at 34kg this time of year yet also running texels and charollais which need to be 44kg to be a 3L/H. In the autumn those mule whethers will grow bone structure and then become 45kg 3L’s again. I’ve tried multiple times to find out the average age of lambs when they put on bone structure but have never found anything on it. At a guess it’s 18-24 weeks

They know what they’re doing aswell, I had a lamb was nowhere near fit but weighed 38kg so I sent it with a batch of 20 that had a lovely finish on them too market and they pulled it out and sold it seperate and it made £15 less than the rest

As a rule lambs graded for dw don’t need the amount of finish lw marts do.
That’s what applies in this neck of the woods.
