Does he breed them all or just buy them out the auctions and sell them on

Very much doubt anyone breeds 1000 rams themselves...

At a guess you'd need 1600-1700 pure ewes to get 2000 lambs to get that 1000 tups - that's without counting deaths or absolute Muppets you wouldn't want to sell

If they were Texels or Beltexes You'd need to be f**kong good with the needle and thread because the vet bill on C-cuts could be scarier than most folks fert bill

They'll be hoovering up the runts at Lanark and Stirlings end of season sales bonanzas

I know a few who try and do it, but not on that scale... but these lambs are left to the end sale for a reason. Without a mega feeding they'll usually still be the poor end as shearlings

It must work out or they'd not keep doing it I guess but to me it seems like a hard way to run a loss leader

They have regular customers for them and sales at home for what I gather

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
