Can anyone explain the reason for hoggs deciding to rise the week after I have put the last of mine away again? Numbers don't look like they have dramatically shifted either!!

Numbers do look down 10% in a lot of the markets they only really went up on Thursday, if we get a week or so like this then the trade might stick it until easter

Dead just over £4 kilo, check out Kivells Exeter market report for live prices, they had more suck lambs than hogs last week.

Mothering Sunday increased demand for lamb or so the Butchers I supply said.
They are all bullish on lamb sales from now and over Easter. While a few will take Milk Lambs the majority will want good hoggets weighing 18 - 21 kg of which there is a short supply.

£4.10 for hogs tomorrow, yea trade for spring lambs is diabolical, until hogs run short and they switch spring lambs are reliant on the export trade which along with export trade for heavy hogs as we all know is all but stone cold dead currently.

Only ray of light for both spring lambs and hogs is that NZ struggled to/ didnt fill the boats a few weeks ago for the Easter trade.

Saw Spring lambs got to £114 for 41kg

2 pens of 42kg 84 and 80.50
1 pen of 49.5kg 89
1 pen of 51kg 92

Happy with that.

why do folk keep bothering to lamb early then

We have quit it this year. With Hogg's being still sold at peak suck lamb time, and then kiwi lambs being shipped in straight after the Hogg's dry up, we accepted defeat. Keeping baby lambs through the winter with no premium seems fairly pointless to me

the supermarkets will soon be able to say British spring lamb is not available
