Can some one tell me where these honest Auctioneers are?
I get quite surprised by this thread , there must be alot of farmers with their eyes closed at market not to see bidders rings.
@Smith31 was stating what he thinks , I think he has a few valid points.
When I first started buying calves a dealer threatened to break my legs..nice (y)
I started buying calves out of leyburn about 6 years ago, on and off never had an experience like that, buyers and auctioneer have always been fine with me.
To be perfectly honest if someone had said that to me is have laughed in their face.

Had a wee glass of Famous Grouse :ROFLMAO: plus it's good to have a debate, it makes the forum more interesting.

We have a small group of 5/10 farmers on here constantly blaming meat companies, yet they still continue to farm year in year out.

Farmers have the right to hear both sides of the story. Auctioneers should be honest and tell farmers that the virus has had a detrimental impact on live prices. Not make up fictional stories about meat wholesalers rigging prices to create suspicion and hatred.

I appreciate it's not popular on here as some think that auctioneers are gods, but it's the truth. I am pro mart but anti bull poo.

Farmers lost all trust in the proccessors after what happened in 2001.

That trust will never be regained regardless of the next months that will be very difficult for everyone but the supermarkets.

Local Morrisons has had no delivery of beef or lamb for the last week, I asked the meat manager why today, reply was that the supply of cattle/ lambs from farms had stopped...

Why haven't Morrisons gone and done a deal to buy some of the meat/ mince etc that was destined for the likes of Maccy d for??
Well that's obviously incorrect.
Woodheads done full kill the last 2 weeks despite staff shortages.
And they are doing deals to source meat from catering trade suppliers

Auctioneer woul have held you while he did.

Happens in machinery sales as well , and I am sure the auctioneers get a cut as well
To be fair after about a month the abuse got that bad in the ring the Auctioneer stopped the calf sale & said no more & had to be sorted...I was allotted my number of calves a week at a discount price....that's the way a free market works

the sh!t will hit the fan over this 80% wages paid
It’s not quite as straightforward
There are several ways to calculate your average also I’m sure accounts email said it’s gross so tax ni pension contribution all to come off

Turns out this morning that the government loans that you can apply for via your bank comes with strict conditions, for example the banks are demanding that the business owners put up their own houses as security to get a loan.

On the 80% wages, so many businesses shut 100% down on Tue because it turned out that if they stay open even if just offering an emergency service for say parts ( builders merchants ) then they will still have to pay all the staff their normal wages and cannot access the 80% wage help.

Will be intresting to see what shambles they dream up for the self employed later.

They would have been better to have just given everyone say £1000 directly month to buy the basics like food etc.

On the 2 meter rule, all places of work have to adhere to that strictly, only shops that aren't that bothered about this rule seems like the supermarkets as their staff are just standing side by side chatting to each other like normal, if the slaughter/packing lines have to adhere to this 2 meter rule then I can imagine its causing some serious problems.

This shutdown has been a complete shock to the system,it is bound to take a while for all this unwanted catering meat to get re-directed to the right place. In the meantime deadweight and market prices are all over the place,in a couple weeks it will settle down and we will see what is truly wanted and what isn't depending on import/export.

As I understand it they can only claim their wages if their employer has entered the scheme...I/e laid them off....otherwise they have to work

It's a bit of a muddle, not simple and expensive for businesses.
My daughter's understanding is that when you enter the scheme, their workers have to stay 'employed' even if the business is in lock down and workers are at home. Wages are paid at 80 per cent of normal, then in this case (EU country) 40 per cent reclaimed from government. But in their own good time.
So outgoings are barely trimmed, while income has dried up totally.

I can see that if the government don't make it a lot easier for people/ companies to access this money fairly quickly then many will just ignore the government advice and go back to work. ( rightly or wrongly )

If they are only offering £4.40 do not send them any or you will accept that as the new norm.

You cannot hold hogs for very long at this time of the year if they are ready.

I suspect thou that many farmers will pull out decent ewe hogs and tup or run on, also many were thinking of sending their ewe lamb replacements as well and I imagine now most of these will see the ram this summer.

When I was buying calves a couple of years ago, auctioneer boys got me breakfast for giving the dealers a kick! I bought 20 odd out of around a hundred for around 5-7 weeks. Dealers didn’t bother running me as I wasn’t silly and dropped a few on them if they tried.
Most of the dealers were actually really pleasant, and I still but weanlings off on now.

Not if they stay above £5/kg deadweight where they are now.

Sensible reply at last, everyone in the chain is looking after their own ar..es chills are full customers demands have changed overnight and I would lay a bet food wastage has reduced dramatically throughout the country. I would also bet that diets have changed very quickly too pasta will be king for a while
I have to admit I am disappointed in the way it is going but I believe very similar has happened all around the world
Feel really sorry for the men how always hold hoggs for Easter hope it starts to rectify quickly, if we had been two weeks further into the year the sheep market would have had a significantly smaller backlog to clear, hope it can get moving again before the main pressure of next years crop comes on or we will really know about it , as for the beef well, it’s pathetic anyway but it may rectify sooner

Sadly I think you're very mistaken on the food wastage thing.
