Apologies if this has been asked on here before but seems to be lots of conflicting answers from what I can find!

Was wondering when the best time of year to spread lime on grass is? Only about 6 acres to spread for new land I’ve taken on and been recommended to spread 2t an acre on it just not sure when the best time to spread is? Should I do now before it gets wet or wait until the spring?

Just spread 12 loads on grassland and some stubbles over the last 3 weeks. Crack on when conditions are right.

I usually go with just as grass paddocks are being closed if the land can be driven on. If not it goes on just after silage cutting or just as we’re spraying off fields to reseed them.

if you're going to reseed it then throw it on the seed bed to help the seeds get started. Other then that, whenever you can.

"Any time suits with lime"

Avoiding the period around calving/lambing if you're applying a decent rate will minimise stock issues, most of our grassland maintenance work is during summer for obvious reasons - we fall off the hills when it's wet.

For flat country, a decent dew will help keep the fines "stuck" which is rather ideal as the fine lime works fastest, less effective if half is over at the neighbours'....
