blizzard fodder beet

been lifting fodder beet today variety blizzard white beet grows in ground suits our sb lifter. but guess 30% red beet growing out of ground, which the topper knocks over leading to losses, has anybody had contaminated seed ?

Never had contaminated seed but move the scalpers out of work, if you have a machine like an old M41 Matrot it needs cutting off usually. Take a compromise then when topping of scalping the taller beet and leaving a bit of leaf on the blizzard, it’ll shake off in the cleaner loaders after a few days but watch for heating if storing a long time. My preferred variety out of 15-20 varieties was always blizzard!!

If you put lambs in they will eat all the tops so cleaner to lift
It can also leave them more vulnerable to frost if frost is likely as the crown is exposed. Don’t use ewes or they’ll go straight for the bulb and knock over any high standing beet.
