Bomford 457 Hedge Trimmer

Good evening,

I have a Bomford 457 Hedge Trimmer which has a spool block set up for open centre hydraulics. I run it on a John Deere 2140 which is closed centre hydraulics.

Is it possible to convert the spool block to closed centre? Having read a few hydraulic threads it would seem @Mr Happy is the oracle on such things.

I have attached a few photo's although the block is quite well hidden under neath.

Thank you

@Deere342 sadly I have a reputation for knowing about hedge cutter Hyds.
You can convert your current open center valve to closed center. It is probably a Kontak spool valve and the only place you'll get parts from is White House Products as mine are all gone.

Now Then..
Wow!!! Good nettle crop.....
I agree it's a Kontak valve assembly.
With a little ingenuity, it's possible to plug the end slice which you already have. Take it off, look at the hole in the centre of the 3 holes. If it's machined round, you can tap it and screw a bolt into it so long as you engineer it flush to the surface. Alternatively, one can cut an O-ring groove in a piece of round bar. Just long enough to touch the bottom of the hole and finish flush with the surface, the O-ring obviously seals at the drilling area... I've done many, way back ...

The end plate on the spool block definitely resembles the V8008 Kontak CC END COV C/W Outlet port shown in the second image posted by @Mr Happy. I will contact White House Products tomorrow and find out about one.

Thank you

Have you got a picture of the other end?? It's the one with no hose connections that you need to modify/replace.
There's a technique for assembling the slices. Don't tighten the tie bolts until it's lightly nipped to the mounting plate..

If you're up for it, take the end off, keeping everything things clean obviously. Look at the hole, you may be able to plug it for pocket money and be cutting hedges by lunchtime..
Tap some threads in, cut a bolt so it finishes flush. Make a screwdriver slot in it and Loctite it in..

That's a Kontak inlet section.
You need the middle hole of the end cover blanked.

I'll get a photo of the opposite end tomorrow. So general consensus is that I need a V8008 KONTAK CC END COV C?W OUTLET PORT not the V8010 which is the photo below in Mr Happy's original post. Talked to White House products today about a V8010 (bottom photo) thinking that was what I wanted but couldn't work out why it had no OUT fitting.

Is it a case of take off the current end and put on the new one, probably over simplifying things here. Leave the end with the IN and OUT to the tractor alone/as is?

Other end! Most definitely a Kontak spool block.

I ordered the part and this turned up this morning, the images on the website show a plug in the middle, which I had assumed would come with the part. Obviously not! What do I need? @Tractortech has talked about a blanking plug, is that what is required or should it stop oil flowing between the two sides.

So is it a blanking plug that allows oil to flow through from left to right or is it a stopper that should go to the bottom of the outlet and not let oil flow.

Sorry for lots of questions, my hydraulic knowledge is limited.

Yes, you'll need plug and bonded seal for it. Flash to your local ag dealer or hydraulic hose place, they should have what you need.
Probably ½"BSP but I can't tell from here..
