Just read this article in the South East Farmer, very frightening.

That certainly has potential to be a lot trouble. The best strategy would be for farmers to make sure they have actual farmers on any board or group that is set up to look at this. Any arguments that can be won at this level will save a lot of grief later when the legislation comes out. Also it would be wise for farmers as a group to start costing out these types of measures to the general public. In order to gain support for yourselves the general public needs to know exactly how much prices are going to rise because the government raises the standards for food production, otherwise, they will be complacent or somewhat in favour of these vaguely worded efforts to "improve animal welfare". This information also needs to be hammered home at every opportunity, which means advertising a lot and in a lot of places.

He’ll get bored of her after a bit. Form there

It’s a popular bandwagon at the moment and whilst we all (I hope) aim for the highest standards of welfare, it would have to be reflected in a higher price .... and NO government would countenance that unless they are happy to inflict food produced elsewhere to totally different - and lower - standards that apply here even currently neverminding CAWFs call for even higher U.K. ones.

Certainly not good, but i dont think shes the problem. The general public have really lost touch with how food begins. I dont know whos to blame or how solve the future issues for farming.

Maybe we are all looking to be part of a global or national outlet; rather than relying on local. That said, thats ok for us, but no good to a farmer beside a big city .. or is it??

Maybe education and information is the answer??
Farmers are production led and maybe need to upskill into areas of marketing.???

Referring to Carrie Symonds as a floozy is simply aping the sort of rabid right wing we're-all-right-Jack Tories that voted in Boris Johnson as party leader.
Atleast it was never proven she was a punch bag, but that will be a full paper version for the Sun when they split I bet.

Awful labelling of her.

Labelling people en masse like that is awful and hypocritical when complaining about anothers labelling of someone they don't know.

think if the taste and tenderness of beef improved drastically it would sell itself at the moment no chance

UnfortunateIy I agree. We now do not eat a lot of beef as we have gone off it over the years as we simply cannot get a sustained quality that doesn't end up like chewing leather.
So what is going wrong with Beef today, is it the way it is handled post slaughter?

In regards to the OP - surely the fully aligned collective masses should send a letter to BoJo expressing your concerns that the industry feels that due to his partners choice of diet, there is a fear that the PM will bow down to her pressure to force changes in the farming industry to suit her agenda which is damaging to the economy instead of calling her out on here?

Farmers need to get real-the public do not like the thought of dairy cows and beef cattle never going out to graze, hens kept in cages, "factory farming" pigs etc. and concerns like these could well influence buying habits when topics like climate change, AB usage, pesticides and GM are thrown into the mix.

It's no good saying the public don't know what they're talking about unless farmers either change the production methods that are disliked, or engage with the public to show these methods are acceptable.

How many farmers reading this thread would actually be prepared to invite the general public (or even a school party) to view their farm and farming methods?

If like us, we have tried many ways - there is definitely a lot of variation in the quality of what you can buy (from butchers shops, farm shops, supermarkets) - so I do not feel it is just cooking (personally)..
We’ve given up on roasting a joint for the reasons you state, just bang it in the slow cooker now with 1/2 a bottle of red and it tastes great and melts in your mouth.

I don't know or care much about who Boris kicks about with.

If such a system rewarded the production of animals that reared and kept more naturally then I'm all for it, but that would require effort on the part of those kicking up the fuss, and most of these types don't bother putting effort into much other than waffle.

Totally plant based diets are not sustainable on a global scale and are simply the ideology of wealthy people who are not particularly well informed. Politicians are just riding the "environmantal" wave as they think it's what people want to hear.
The reality is If people are to convert to natural plant based diets the world's population will have to be reduced massively. Now which political leader is brave enough to make people aware of this.

The Issue is pretty typical of the privileged and should just be ignored.

Cant do that with steaks though, but I know what you mean with slow cookers, we do use slow cooker with joints sometimes. It should not be necessary with a roast joint though, and some joints have far more sinue than others etc, which ruins the meal if you get a bad one.
