We are looking at one of these as a solution to disposing of dirty water throughout the winter months during washdown of poultry sheds.

Ideally we would want to move a 10 cube an hour but the difficulty is that we have a number of different holding tanks. Therefore we want to be able to move the pumping systems around to be discharging from a different tank some cycles. Any experiences would be welcomed, particularly of anyone who has set up a mobile pumping set up. Also if anyone has or knows of any second hand systems available we would be very interested.

Could you have all of the small tanks going to 1 bigger store to save the hassle of moving the pump all the time? If Moving to new tanks every 7 days or more it won’t be that hard to do but if it’s every 3-4 days it would get tedious moving it

Brilliant bit of kit, the pump won't want to move about though as the discharge is into 63 mm plastic pipe and that is not flexible. The pump is big and has sensers and things attched, it needs to be fixed.

I had similar problem to the op, I solved it with 3 heavy duty submersible pumps pushing the dirty water to a central pit and then a macerator pumping to the holding tank for the irrigator (150m away and under a road)

Thank you all.

There are 5 tanks spread about 750m apart. At the moment we have a vaccy tanker spreading the water as they fill at each crop turnaround but at this time of year finding suitable places to travel becomes quite a challenge. We were thinking of still using the tanker but using that to take the water to a single tank where the irrigator is working for that particular crop. Next crop we would move the pumps etc to another location to spread on a different field, although I suspect that it could probably remain on the same crop for several crops given how much more evenly it would be spread. I was thinking of mounting the pumping set-up on something that could be moved with the forks on the loader.

Midland Slurry is the place to ask.

How often do you have to tanker from each tank? Is it only at the end of a cycle when the birds have gone every few weeks or is it every few days? This would make a big difference, you wouldn’t want to be setting up all the time but every few weeks/months wouldn’t be too bad and would save you tankering?

We have to tank from each tank at the end of each cycle every six weeks or so. It is about 25 cube from each tank. The tanks are not quite large enough to take all of the washdowns from each clean without taking some water off. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the cleaners' pumps on their pressure washers only get bigger and faster and they sometimes come with 6-7 diesel powered washers that inevitably use a lot more water than when the sheds/tanks were first installed. Of course the right answer would be to install some more tanks too but that is not overly appealing...

If water is arriving at huge speed you will be moving the rainer a lot more than you think, that gets a bit dull after a few years of it. Moving the gun and the pipes from field to field is tedious too after the first 20 times.

I love the machine though and am glad that I have mine fixed and underground mains to take it to other fields so that I only have to move the gun and the 40mm pipes when I want to change fields. The chap at Midland Slurry is great though and will sort you out totally.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
