Buying Stock Bulls

The champ at Stirling, by the pictures, didn't look to be that growthy a bull. But, I guess, if your cows have become to big & rangey one if those types of bull might do a job?

Stirling champ wouldn't have been for me either, I'd prefer not to let cows get too big and rangey so that I didn't need to go to the opposite end of the spectrum to correct their size. But everyone to their own.

Did they take photo in snow so you could not see his feet.

Have you seen some of their's before?:)

Looks a good bull. King over newry seems to be doing a good job. The champion at Stirling was newry over a king dam. Leslie weatherups stock bull at lisglass is a newry over a king dam. I've not seen him in the flesh but he looks good in the picture and I hear he is good. Obviously a good cross.

Personally I don't like King and I do my best to avoid lines with him in them, I saw him a good few years ago, very small and hard muscled with a bad temper, a very over rated and very terminal type bull IMO.

Stirling Champ , October 2013!!:facepalm::stop::stop: A terrible set of front feet.

Apparently I hear talk of certain NI herds trimming , grinding and re-trimming cows feet continually to keep them right. Why not just concentrate on breeding correct feet?

He's turned out a pretty darned OK looking bull in my opinion.

north east scotland is awash with simmentals, go to a breeding sale at Thainstone, you'll see little else
I've got some nice Baz/Whitebred cross heifers, don't know what to do with them.
If you don't want to take them to Thainstone , why not try sticking an advert in the local paper or the Scottish Farmer @choochter ? That way you'll at least get an idea if there's any interest in that X as breeders.

With the quality of the females that you've shown us on here , it would be worth a try anyway. (y)

There's pro's and cons. At least in the mart , a wide audience gets to see the heifers. But if you can get potential customers to come to your farm , they can see how the cattle work in their home surroundings.

I don't expect I could afford Scottish prices but how old are they and how much ?

@Henarar if I was to AI them and then sell, what would be the best breed to AI them with?
I wouldn't like to say really, it always used to be Angus for a heifer but I don't think they are the safe bet they were, all the Baz cross we have had went to our blue bulls and I don't remember any big problems but it was a fare few years ago
what age do you think they would be ready to bull ?
shame you are so far away I wouldn't mind some more Baz cross, the ones we have had have done us well
Any pics ?
