Bye bye W7!

Here is one of the Lenovo M720q small form factor units. These were cheaper German versions (only diff was the keyboard and power cord) I got from LambdaTek: 256GB SSD, 1.7Ghz Core i5 8500T with 8GB of RAM.

Metal case is around 18cm square and 35mm thick. Very solidly put together, typical Lenovo build quality.

These are so small and built like bricks, but aren't cheap or very upgradable but for standard computing with limited space they're great.

Pretty well stacked in there! Room for another memory module and an empty M2 type SSD slot.

These aren't really bought for ultimate upgradability but great for a small footprint built to a solid spec, well built, good warranty (3 years) and excellent post sale and driver support from Lenovo...

Oh me I feel guilty now, I'm reading this on Win XP Pro SP3. Its on a pretty good spec PC and goes extremely well.
Its well protected and till very recently the old OS not being supported hasn't been a bother. There are Win 10 laptops/PCs here and in the office but I like the old XP.

I'm needing to do more with video files and that will be the reason to upgrade soon.

I used to build and sort out computers in my spare time but I'm so out of touch with specs now its scary.

Win10 ....shudders... have it installed on desktop but never use it, still use 7. 2 laptops kids use on 10 and they can never get on with what they want to do as its always updating.
Normally takes 8hrs to update each laptop when “new” version of 10 arrives. That’s not using laptops while they update, if you do you could easily double the time.
Takes 6 hrs just to download updates and no matter what I try I can’t get them to share the downloads to save time despite it being a feature of 10.

It’s getting to the point now where if everything was allowed to be updated in this household we would lose ground as internet wouldn’t be able to keep up with them.

Where will it all end?

Agree completely, Microsoft seem to forget that we are not all on a superfast fibreoptic broadband connection. Some of the others are as bad though.
This constant updating drives me nuts, more so when we are on a metered 4g connection.:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I really don't understand the people disliking W7, in my experience it's the best OS Microsoft has ever made with an honourable mention for XP.
I'll definitely be shedding a tear once it's time to "upgrade" my gaming machine to W10. Not to mention scrambling to lock down any and all spying....

Picked one up off fleabay at the right price last week based on your recommendation!! 16gb RAM and 250gb SSD, I'll pop another M.2 NVME drive in too if I can find a Black Friday bargain  Not sure how big yet, a TB seems ludicrously large!!

Seems fast and very quiet so far!! Still going through the process of setting it up and transferring software and files from the other PC and backup storage! Popped on a W7 shell, but not quite sure about it yet!! I'll make the leap sometime next year I guess.....

Just install 'Classic Shell' on Win10 and you can having it looking like Win7
Our Kid as well as Mrs B have issues with Classic Shell although it still works fine on my PC, rather strange as we are all on W10

Further investigation reveals that Classic Shell is no longer supported and that 'Open Shell' is it's replacement - other options are available!

So, which 'shell' did you choose?
