Calf prices in to TB units?

Unfortunately we are down with TB so we will have to sell calves into a TB isolation unit. What sort of %reduction will we have to accept compared with the market price. We have a unit that will probably take them but we have yet to negotiate a price?

Circa 50% market value for younger calves probably 75% market value for 4-8 week old calves if done well

Typically, selling to a TB isolation unit can lead to a reduction in price compared to open market values. The reduction can vary based on the demand in your area, the condition of the calves, and the negotiation with the buyer, but it’s not uncommon to see a 10-20% reduction in price compared to what you’d get in a standard market.
Since you already have a potential buyer lined up, you might have some room to negotiate based on the quality of your stock and the unit’s capacity. If the calves are in good condition and the isolation unit is keen to take them, you might be able to minimize the discount. However, if the unit is aware that you're limited in your selling options, they might push for a lower price.
Dream on!

10 -20%! That would be a dream! We've just been shut down for 2 months with 3 IRs, have been selling Herefords for about £80. I saved the last few an extra week and took them to the mart when we came clear - £325.

Unfortunately being shut up with tb is a twunt, we kept 50 calves about after our 1st clear test and went clear on 2nd, for the amount for the amount of milk and time they consumed I'm not convinced we were alot better off than selling them for £135 with a wet navel
