compromise, 4" board (or 3") with 1" gap either side of the purlin should be sheltered and airy then? if its a problem can put extra board over some gaps in the future?
seen space boarding with boards over the gap to seal it completely called "weather boarding"

That’s looks really good! What size are the boards 150 mm and the horizontal runners what thickness are they? We had mentioned half the width of the board as a gap, good to hear they keep the rain out.

I'm not sure without measuring it. Always think a calf shed is not easy ventilation wise because you need air flow but not to draughty.

Could I be cheeky and ask you to measure, gap looks 50mm it’s the runner width between horizontals that’s hard to tell. Had a quick play around after milking a lot more impressed with yours than this.

Same as is coming here. What size is the pen? Splitting my stations into two separate pens. Not as many cows as you tho.View attachment 741008

22’ x 45’
I can still split my pen in half as i got the builders to put sockets in the concrete just in case. All the systems i have seen split the calves up but as mine will be at least 10 days old when they go in, they should be strong suckers. I thought i’d try it first as one pen see how they get on.

I know little about construction, but I often helped my father with the renovation of our barn. We want it completely replaced by a new. I know how expensive cost a good architect work, so I found a free project on the Internet. It's wery simple, but it suits us. I can share articles and resources with you, for example, here is all the information about the roofs. This helps us choose the material and calculate the quantity and cost. We are still not starting construction of a new barn, we plan to start in March. I hope by that time I will be well versed in this.

Has anyone any pictures or ideas for draft stoppers on the bottom of doors for calf shed, or do we just put the door low enough and use a gale breaker type thing above the door????

I saw some really good ones that were like a cordura bag filled with sand, there was a metal strip on the deck underneath the door for the bags to run on. Sealed it really well!

I think it was a homemade affair, might have some pictures somewhere.
