Cambridge roll cast rings

We have a very good, heavy set of mid 90’s vintage horizontal fold Simba rolls - engineered like nothing you can buy these days, they will outlive me i’m sure

the cast rolls are quite worn now and a few are broken, replacing them is not easy often only way to remove from the shaft is to cut the shaft and press ( alternate suggestion welcome!)

it’s really time to replace all the rings - that won’t be cheap at circa £60 each so i’m wondering what alternatives to old castings might exist and possibly be a better job and more reliable ?

DD rings might work ? ( but cost !)

Opico rubber rollers ? ( too light ?)

tubes filled with water or concrete maybe ? ( could be cheap ?)

agricast be your best place

last time was there would be 120 ton of roller rings and press rings in yard they will have some thing to suit

or if you fancy going to india for some google the foundry’s in kizwok

I don't recall ever breaking a ring while actually rolling a field. Until recently we had rolls without transport wheels, so rings broke while trundling between fields. That may have finished of any failing rings before they break in the field. Not that stone here, but still plenty of bricks and kerb stones in places.

The trick seems to be not going to fast. Which can be easier said than done.

When I had to get furrow press rings of a shaft,I soaked the shaft to get water between everything then hung shaft up vertically on telehandler and pressure washed between rings and shaft.took a while but got every ring of shaft with out damage.

Whats the best type of ring for working on stoney land? Will a cast 1 shatter if it hit a stone at speed?
cross ring rolls fitted with similar rings as heavy duty vaderstaad rolls , ductile steel , some of the boulders ive pulled up ive been expecting to turn round and find a cracked ring but no they stand up , they are well worn now so will get a over haul at some point
