Suck it up first time round, if they keep breaking the same things again I’d be asking them to get their hand in their pocket.

Employed a guy once (briefly) that punched the electronic load display on the TMR mixer until the screen went black. He had "anger issues" .........

In the past when we had a bigger squad, careless damage got to an unacceptable level, too easy for guys to hide damage amongst a large squad. I'm not the sort of person to lose the head, so we had a few staff meetings, not much changed. So I totalled up the bills which I deemed to be caused by carelessness/roughness and it came to around £15k, I then looked up online what we could buy for an equivalent amount, specifically replacements for bits of kit that were causing us grief.

We then had another sit down and went thru the reasons why we were still using a 25yr old drill, trailers that were from the 80s and were running 8000hr loadalls.

Peer pressure was the most effect tool I found.

It’s a telehander not a bumper car!

If properly designed, it shouldn't be easy to damage lights and mirrors. If everyone keeps damaging a particular vehicle, it may be that the vehicle is at fault-or do you think people come to work not caring if they damage kit?

I've seen many vehicles where indicators, for example are on stalks that protrude outside the main body of the vehicle or headlights are held in place by cast brackets that break at almost any impact.

Putting guards around lights may be very cost effective preventative maintenance.

I think a lot of problems arise from trying to use large modern machinery (in particular telescopics) on your own, in sheds and yards that were built to accommodate a Dexta with a trip loader and three blokes with pitchforks and strong backs.

This.

So many farm yards are piled high with general detritus and scrap that you can't swing a cat.

With a handful of good chaps you can sort a lot of issues and make things easier and faster. Nothing drives me more insane than putting up with the same issues for year after year, do something about it.
