Carparks

The general public are driving me bats
We have always had a reasonable amount of walkers the travel to our area and park to walk in the countryside. We have nearly never had any issues with this apart from the long dog brigade. We are happy for people to get out in to the country side as long as they are respectfull.
Since March there has been a new breed of visitor that is either uneducated or just plain selfish. It has become a thorn in our side, cars abandoned in gateways and on the sides of single track roads causing access issues for stock and machinery. Rubbish and human excrement all over, that is both disgusting and a health risk to stock and man.
Our thoughts are we either live with it and hope it goes away when covid dies down (maybe) go on the offensive or do we try to direct the traffic to a designated car park ? i’m talking 20-40 cars.
has anyone else done this and what are the pit falls ? rubbish ? insurance ? camping?
Would there be any funding available ? (scotland) even to pay for a couple of days digger hire
Will this help my problems or do you think it will serve as a magnet to attract more people causing a snowball effect.
thoughts and advice appreciated public or PM

I feel for you. I have had this happen recently also (on a smaller scale than you)
The farm drive is fairly long with a wide opening at the end (so long machinery/trailers can get in off the road etc)
Cause it's wide, they leave their cars there and go for a walk on the farm footpaths for a couple of hours!!!!!!

Then we can't get in safely. Or just can't get in or out at all.

If you catch them and tell them your pee'd off... They verbally abuse you.

Next time it happens, I'm going to leave an old trailer there and block them in and bugger off for the day.
No idea what the solution is, but spending money on signs maybe the only option, but hate spending money like this

They don't read the signs!! Or they just vandalise them.

Went to get supplies today and saw 3 cars abandoned in gateways.
I know ground conditions aren't that favorable at the minute for field work but I would imagine that if someone parked across their access they wouldn't be very happy ! Is the other option to place large

" No parking 24hr access required "

signage like they do in town?

Its been a problem around here since Covid. Seems crazy that even though they have come to the countryside for a walk, they have to park as close as possible to the start of said walk 🤦‍♂️

Signs never seem to last more than a week or two.

Thankfully most of these people are made of sugar so the bad weather has helped.

Get signs up. "NO PARKING. 24HR ACCESS REQUIRED". Monitor the situation and call the police whenever access to your property is blocked. Blocking a field entrance is equatable in law to parking across a dropped kurb in an urban environment and the police will trace the owner from a reg number and ask them to move escalating to a fine if the offence is repeated. Make enough of a pain in the arse of yourself and the police might even have a regular patrol along then problem area.

Or more likely the police will do naff all because they don't have the resources to deal with everything

Horrible to have signs up on every gateway. Townyfies the countryside
But needs must.

Next time it happens, I'm going to leave an old trailer there and block them in and bugger off for the day.
A few years ago I had a woman who kept parking in the field with her car and taking her dog for a walk. I told her not to park on the field and got abuse back.
Following week came back from ploughing and her car was in field again, so I put tractor and plough across gate way, locked it up and walked home.
About an hour later phone rang and it was woman telling me to move tractor. I asked where she got my number from and police had given it from our registration number, which I believe they shouldn't do. Told her she had been warned and that I was having my tea and ended call.
A short while after police phoned and told me if I didn't unblock the gate I would be arrested for entrapment!!
Eventually let her car out and got an apology the following day. No more problems.
