Cat 765 vs 939 on 5m topdown traction.

I have a 939 on 710/75/42 rears and 650/65/34 fronts on a 5m Topdown on breakmix points. Last Autumn found we really struggled for traction on the damper areas. We added a 750Kg weight to rear linkage and that made a big difference. A couple of questions to those with the experience:

How much difference would a set of wheel weights make? What sort of weights are people putting on the wheels with a similar set up. I'm currently running tyres as low as I can from memory around 8psi in rears and 9 in fronts. 1000Kg weight on front 750kgs on links

Would a Cat 765 be any better or would it just dance around on the surface. I have absolutely no knowledge of track layers at all!!

Thanks.

Had a 75e (flat track) challenger and it danced on slippery surfaces and if really wet just would not turn as the implement behind it just acted like an anker so it the tractor moved like a snake but remained stationary. Also used JD8520T which was worse in the same conditions but even though similar hp was physically a lot smaller than the challenger so hadnt got the weight.
Latterly we used a 875e challenger which was different again and was a lot better but the tracks were spaced wider than the JD (not sure about the 75e as that was a flat track) but the wider spacing made it easier to turn in wet conditions but then it scrubbed more on headlands.

This is where the 4 track system wins everytime.

Wheel weights and a 750 or wider tire would do wonders for you

I’d have thought 500kg wheel weights and 1500kg on the front would help?

I use an 828 with 1200kg front, 300kg wheels and low tyre pressure on a 4m topdown with breakmix points, its a good match.

Ran a 939 here till this spring and in a previous life a 939 and 936 side by side. The only way we could get full traction is 1ton wheel weight in each wheel and 2.5t on front pulling 4.5m trio, 5m top down, 6m Karat, 7 leg subsoiler and 8-9furrow ploughs. In the wet the 710/75r42 gripped better then the 900 in the dry or on loose soil seemed to find 900 did better. You need weight to pull no way around it sadly. Challenger 765 great in dry park it up in wet!

Crawlers will always pull better than a like for like wheel tractor and will do so while looking after your soil. They do loose traction in the wet as above; but only when it’s so wet that you really ought not to be on there.
