I've got some mental stoney ground to cultivate with a trio that chips the tungsten for fun. I'm thinking of having a dedicated set of legs with the cheapest feet/wearing metal I can get.
Shakerator feet came to mind, if I convert some scrap legs I've got I could use them when going there...
I've never got this right.
My criteria are:
Must be 4m min and pulled by 265hp.
Minimal moving parts & bearings
Must have reasonably priced tungsten wearing metal.
Needs to be able to work hilly heavy land to say 8 inches max, with both lift and mix.
Must also be able to work shallow and quick...
Anyone managed to grab bits? I grabbed some real light bits but any clay and it’s a wet shitty mess. Not sure when to throw the towel in and go for sfi
I farm heavy silty clay with flints. No ditches, no land drains. Good strong wheat land, if unforgiving.
I've been trying to grow cover crops on and off for the last 9 yrs. With one exception, they have all been disastrous.
Summer cover crops in place of a spring crop, on the other hand, can...
So who will be the 1st in the UK to buy one of these? 830hp (boosting to 913hp) and a ballasted weight of 38 tonnes. There'll be some here in Lincs no doubt. I suspect the bigger announcement by Deere yesterday though was the autonomous tractor capability being built into many of their new...

we havnt had a good ploughing vrs DD dust up for awhile :sneaky:it all seems dominated by the politics of rt nfu et al
looking at the above machine
does anyone know if the tines can be lifted out of work while the discs and roller continue to work on the move
our ground is hilly sand loam and wanting to pull tines up as we reach a hilly bit to keep momentum going
TIA
Pros and cons of each? 6m Topdown or Solo, mole draining, drilling with 12 m Avatar ( I know it’s overkill ).
Either 8RX 410 or Axion 960tt.
All input welcome.

For the field season of 2024, the cultivators Väderstad TopDown and Opus, enter a new generation. In addition to an updated design, this means the introduction of the iPad-based control system Väderstad E-Control, as well as the possibility to apply prescription map tillage via ISOBUS Task...
Thinking about our bean stubbles in particular which have a fairly weedy understory this year. Some of the weeds if left will set seed imminently (groundsel being our particular nemesis nowadays), but don't want to be too reliant on more than one pre-planting roundup.
Also - thinking about...
We’re on soils that go hard and struggling to find a machine to chit them unless they are wet. We persevered with a vaderstad carrier for a few years but got rid of it in the end as it just wouldn’t penetrate hard soils. We then used a mounted disc/press machine with the idea the tractor linkage...
I was always taught to work heavy land from the top down- I.e discs first, then a leg.
Why do all these machines have the legs first? Probably easier on the tractor than having then further back I suppose, if mounted. Just seems a bit sub-optimal to me.

Advances in power, road speed, suspension and tyre technology mean conventional wheeled tractors are replacing tracked models as some larger farms’ mainline machines. But one Bucks contractor believes the former don’t hold all the cards...
Not for the first time have I read of a direct drill comparison and found the best margins were obtained by quite a large percentage by a more conventional approach. ( This weeks FW )
Is it possible that DD and cover cropping can work and can be successful but if you are not bothered about being...
After a very easy and early harvest, followed by a few stressful weeks of unbelievably dry conditions when most drilling and land work was impossible, we finally had the autumn we had all been waiting for. For us the rain fell little and often from mid-September until the beginning of November...
