Challenger pulled out of Europe

You have to also consider that AGCO do not "own" the challenger brand, the brand is used under license from Caterpillar INC, that includes the name, colour etc. So everytime they sell one a cheque will wing its way back to Cat, where as Fendt is an owned and recognised brand out side of the USA, so, from a business perspective it may have short term pain, but long term gain for AGCO.
Thought they acquired the rights a couple of years ago. I could be mistaken.

AGCO surely can't be giving the market away to mainly Deere and Case? That would just not make sense, so the surely must replace the whole range with something. Is it just the name that they are dropping perhaps? They've already been sold in green for a while and could again, in a different shade.

They should of thought about that before signing the deal in the first place don't you think?

Again nothing in concrete but heard it will be a complete new machine on same running gear. Fendt cab etc plus a long awaited suspension. Small series vario larger range, power shift as normal.
At least might get a quieter cooler ride. Dread to think what the price tag would be looking at the 1050!?

It could simply be strategic and that they see the future of large hp tractors with drivers sitting on them as having a somewhat limited future in the UK/EU ?

The robots are coming and maybe that's where future model investment would be better placed ?

AGCO gettIng ahead of the curve ?

Don't think so or they wouldn't of wasted their money developing the 1000 series fendts,my guess is that cat wasn't very pleased about having a sisu engine put in their machine

Development must run nearly a decade ahead of sale ? That Fendt 1000 series would have been first drafted at least 10 yrs ago I bet ?

If it's time to start a new challenger design ready to sell in 2025- then maybe they can see by then that the market may no longer exist

Complete speculation of course but I can't see why anyone would be investing many 10's of millions into the next version of a concept that is about to become mostly obsolete

Mostly obsolete?? Just remember the uk is a very small fish in a very big pond where farming is concerned. Yes they maybe won't sell many in the U.K. If your prophecy comes true, but there are plenty of other countries out there that farm on a much larger scale, and require something a bit larger than a dinky toy mid range tractor to cover the ground.

I would say they didn't want to be left in the lerch like class were when cat moved to them, all that's happening is cat is moving away from agco not the other way round. It would never surprise me that you see cats in kubota orange or class green

Why does any country need big tractors ? Big is only efficient when you need labour

10 x 50hp robots will do more in a day than x1 500hp big tractor with a driver

Old thinking that still thinks big fields will
need big tractors - in fact it's the big units that will adopt first imo

Possibly but remember a lot of countries like America and Australia often run kit that's donkeys years old. For them it could well be cheaper to just get a fresh power unit occasionally rather than replacing the whole infrastructure at vast cost.

As I'm sure you are aware it's all about unit cost. In some situations the challenger might be the best option.

I agree until the old models wear out they will remain the best option

But as far developing their similar replacements to start selling 10 years from now ? Pointless regardless of scale imo

I bet most of the R&D cash is going into machines without cabs now for manufacturers with a 10 year plus ahead view

Needs a bit more than that though doesn't it.

it needs drills to match the mini robots etc. And unless everything is wanting changing all at the same time it just adds additional cost.

And at the end of the day is say 10 mini drills and mini robots needed to pull them going to be cheaper than 1 big drill and robot tractor?

Again all down to unit cost per acre. Non of us know the answer to that one yet!
