Cheviot x

Has anyone on here used a cheviot tup on scotch/noe mules and texel mules? Wanting to try this for replacements in the hope of lambing more outside and ewes doing better off a grass based system? Pictures of the resulting crosses would be much appreciated aswell!

Done it with scotch mules, great ewe makers and decent enough fat lambs, I always used hill type cheviot rams,,, But now I've totally moved to the dark side,
I would like to use the park type, we are on good ground here and there's something about a big strong frame of a ewe that I've a soft spot for 😂

I'm sick of big ewes, every job that has to be done with them is like working with rams.
I've been attempting to reduce the frame on our ewes over the past few years.

Used to be the most common cross onto mule gimmers, then sell the females o. For breeders and the males fat or store, would def keep clear o& 5he park type myself though
I always find the the larger framed ewes do far better over the winter and hold condition a lot better after raring a couple of lambs.
Would there be much difference in lambing % between Hill and Park type? Not much educated on the cheviot

Says the man that has a thing for Border Leicesters or was the owner of them that was the attraction 🤔

I dated a lass who is involved with Borders, 7 years ago. She's now happily married.

Has no bearing on my involvement, or use of NCCs - Park or Hill.

I remember all the comments which were made when I bought my Suffolks in 2016, too... and I proved everyone on here wrong with them - successfully lambing outside through the Beast from the East.
Maybe some people just need to learn and pick better stock

Don’t worry I’m suffulk man myself, go for the ones which don’t have heads like a giant cabbage, your source of decent Park tups must be a well guarded secret

So ladies, the secret to finding happiness is to date Nithsdale for a while as it will mean the next man you find will be the love of your life 🤣

Was there a movie based on that kind of story?

You'd actually be surprised how many I've dated whom have married the very next guy... (It's a depressingly high strike rate)

After me, they realise they'll never do better so just settle for whatever 😎🤣
