Chicken shed build thread

Does the conveyor take the eggs into the packer in new shed?
How are the birds getting on?

Yes, the two lines merge onto the packer.

The birds in the flat deck are flying, +186g body weight last week, 13hrs light.

Multi-tier much slower to get going, adding about 80g a week, on 12hrs light.

The new system has some catching up to do!

Multi tiers do seem to take longer to get used to their surroundings. Last lot in one of ours stood still for 2 weeks.
How many are in the old shed?

Bovans Brown and ISA brown in the new shed. Hyline in the old. They hyline are way ahead of the new shed in body weight and production, naturally!

as above^^^ v.impressive  couple of questions, when the robot stacker has filled a layer does it get itself one of the grey plastic things (dont know what you would call them) before putting another layer of eggs on the pallet and do you have to move the full pallet yourself before it fills another?

It can fill 3 pallets, it puts its own pallets and tray dividers down. The only interaction you have with it is to reset it if someone crosses the light curtain and to confirm you've removed a pallet with the pallet truck.

It has no awareness, if you put a stack manually on the belt the wrong way round like I did the other day it will just smash the stack everywhere! Also if you add stacks to the pallet by hand manually you have to tell it, or it will just sweep the lot onto the floor with its next set of 4.

Very impressive. Do you think the market is still promising? We've been looking at the possibility of going into the sector but don't know whether to believe the figures we have!!

I'm not sure, it looks ok at the moment, there's a lot of expansion going on though egg consumption is rising, a jump in the wheat price would soon knock a hole in any figures. It's a fair commitment in time and money.
