Makes sod all difference I find, you end up forever pulling straw out of them!Nope. For us it was just part of the daily maintenance to clear it off.

I’m talking every header/ field change, doesn’t take long but needs to be kept on top off. This is also running 2 combines side by side. Especially bad in barley.Well we found if you don’t it creates bigger issues. Literally takes 2 mins a day to do it.
yes a regular problem had smoke coming of ours mainly the older original black tracks ask your dealers parts dept ,claas do a three sided cover/boot to fit over uj joint but fit them open side down as the straw drops down by going round the tracks our dealer fitted ours wrong way up thinking it was driving over swaths made it wrap i discovered this by looking at parts book when they did not work at firstIs the above a common problem, if so any tips to help avoid the problem.
maybe the one we had trouble with was 09 reg 600 we also had a 08 600 that only did it rarely the fitter believed it was down to more wear in the tracks on the 09 as it did more road hrs and the blocks in middle of tracks were worn moreIs this an age related lexion thing our 2017 I can't think I've ever seen it ??

Can you by any chance remember how long was the piece of pipe that you cut to go over the shafts/ UJs.?I thought the driveshafts had a plastic sheath around them?
If not get a piece of sewer pipe cut it horizontally down the middle thread it over the shaft it will be larger than the shaft Put some duct tape along the cut mark so the straw doesn’t pickup then it will bounce up and down the will not pickup as bad this is what I did to my old 480 used to be quite bad at it when we were cutting barley and straw used to come round the tracks and build up.View attachment 1050107
